I recently hatched out 2 males from a ? Able low %spalding hen and a cameo male, now by popular belief this make the 2 male chicks India Blue split cameo. My question is : at 6 months old, what color should their eyes be, not the tail eyes but the actual eyes in their heads? Mine have the bluest eyes but their 1/2 siblings ( same dad diff mom) hatched same timeframe already have the brown/green eyes. I wonder if the IB chicks eyes will stay blue and if so is this normal or a mutation of some sort?

This is the first time I've had hatchlings and every where I ask no one knows the answer. Also they are getting green necks not blue,so I wonder will this change colors on next molt? They are huge for 6 month olds, bigger than my chickens and brave enough to fight a chicken too

I had to separate them today.

I don't know, but I've only seen birds that age or older change eye color due to dietary change or disease, so I'd think they'll keep their blue eyes most likely. 6 months is a wee bit old for developing eye color to still be in its earlier stages.

Still a total novice with peafowl myself so will just subscribe to your thread and learn if anyone else puts in. :D

Greetings, and

Best wishes.

I have spaldings with brown eyes and my whites, cameos, and silver pieds have blue eyes, so I would imagine they could end up with any shade between the 2.

All of my mature India Blues hatched with blue-gray eyes and turned brown at some point, but I don't remember when.

Some birds have darker eyes than others. From what I have seen, white peafowl seem to always have blue eyes & Pieds seem to always have blue eyes. In different lighting their eyes can look darker or lighter. The eye close-ups above are of around 10 different birds. To me the pied peafowl have light blue eyes while my whites have a dark blue eye color.

I do not know if the eyes will stay that blue or not? But I do know that this is a Black Shoulder patterned male chick, which means both parents had to be at least split to black shoulder.

Here is a pic of a Black Shoulder chick of mine from a few years ago, not the greatest pic, but he does have blue eyes also.
