Peafowl for 2013

I had 3 peas to hatch last week and they were sold within days. I just put in 11 pea eggs in the incubator on Saturday. I hope the girls stop laying eggs because I'm tired of seeing pea eggs. I don't want them to go to waste, so I have to incubate them.

And I hope that I don't get all white peas this hatch.

We are still getting a few eggs here and there but not incubating them. There is one batch that stops turning next week and one the following week and then the incubator is getting turned off until next year. It has been a great year for selling pea chicks though, We hold them for a week to two weeks after hatch to make sure they get off to a good start and then they are moving down the driveway.

My two year old Blackshoulder Spalding peahen has started her third cycle. I finally understand why you are annoyed with the constant flow of eggs. My peahen hatched seven peachicks and it is adorable seeing them walking around with her.

It's day nine and I'm about to candle the 16 eggs that I put under broodies. Some of the eggs were quite old, and I didn't store them properly, so I doubt I'll have too many that are viable.

Wish that it were Day 9 for me. I'm ready to get this over with.

A few of my eggs were old, however I did store them properly for whatever it's worth. I think the oldest egg was dated 6-26. Was trying to wait for the guinea eggs and other pea eggs to hatch before I could put them in.

I found 1 this morning but i left it in the pen. I will continue to collect the eggs and put them under whatever is broody right now. My Tom has been doing a great job incubating duck eggs, so I may try him out and see what happens.

Wow, I knew it would be bad, but I wasn't thinking it would be this bad, lol, looks like 1 out of 16 is viable, 1 has a blood ring and the other 14 didn't do anything. No surprise, the two that did something are the freshest.

How old were the eggs?
