Peafowl for 2013

I think I'm going to let all my hens set this year on their first eggs because I already have so many! 55 haha is a lot and I've got too many females by far so I'm on the hunt for males! The last three summers I've hatched way more girls than boys and I'm beginning to wonder if it's not just chance and we're affecting it somehow. This year l hope to really start selling birds but I'm probably going to have to sell then in trios and even then I'll have extra girls it's crazy! I'm not sure how big a market there is where I live too which is another reason not to hatch any I want to see how many I can find homes for before I bring more into the world.

I feel like most breeders would want a few extra girls but this is crazy 5 males out of 21 birds for one year! And maybe even worse for last summers hatch, what's up?? I also have to finish another coop (we ran out of wire part way through)! I'm feeling pretty good about housing though after I finish that and condense the chickens I'll have an extra coop! And if I sell my three year olds, that my grandpa is interested in for his greenhouse business I'll have another free pen!

If anyone wishes to donate some peafowl eggs, i will pay shipping.

How do you hatch pointy end down? Last year I bought 10 pea eggs from TX somewhere my daughter got them for me. She has a big incubator she has for chickens, ducks etc. they tried hatching my pea eggs and didn't get one. We opened them later and found three were developed but we think couldn't get out is this normal? It was our first on pea eggs. My peas will be 1yr this June and July when will they start laying. I think I have two different pairs

Peahens usually lay some when they are two, but I have gotten eggs from yearling rare but it does happen. The peacock usually needs to be at least two with a few eyes in his train before they are old enought to breed. I lay my eggs on there side in my sportsman auto turn incubator and turn them by hand once a day also.

When my pair was two, the male didn't have a train at all. I put the eggs under a hen and one hatched...
