I have a theory... several days before mine hatched, the two broody hens started talking to their eggs, so I think that's when they started moving under her, but it's just a guess.

I incubate mine and havent had one take 28 days this year. The 25th and 26th day are the norm for me. I have 4 under a broody now, I'll have to keep track on those.

Well at least I know that its nothing I did for them to start early. Ididn't think it could be me. Their turkey incubator mates have a 28 day incubation length and THEY didn't do this. Iam so worried! I hope I can get my chicks out without loseing any or at least many.

Quick question from a peafowl newcomer. I hatched out a single chick named Flipper about a month ago. Because it was alone (all its brood-mates were stolen/broken by a squirrel) I put a newly hatched oliver egger chick in with it. Last week they started fighting. So I removed the OE chick and put in some week old peachicks. They are doing really well together.

To get to the point....when the OE chick would fight with the pea, and now when I approach the pen that the babies are in with Flipper, Flipper will raise his/her tail and puff up his/her feathers, apparently to protect them from me. So to get to the point (again), is the lifting of the tail any indication that Flipper is a male? It honestly looks a lot like when my adult male raises his train.

Is there a good link/source for info on peachick sexing? I know that it is supposed to be very difficult. But I'd love any advice or direction you guys can give me.

Both males and hens will raise their tails and fan at young ages,as do hens fan tails even when they get older.Don't think the hens realizes tail fanning is meant to be a male thing.

It's day 22 and I just candled the 10 eggs under the two hens and it looks like there is one not fertile, two early quitters, one that's pressing against the internal membrane and movement in all the others. So far, out of 30 eggs set, I have 12 chicks and 8 due 7-5. Definitely room for improvement!

Alright, well they were malpositioned to varying degrees. I lost 2 and had to get the other 4 out, 2 last night and 2 this morning. They are okay, just a little curl toed. I have them booted so it should correct quickly. I will get pics when they are a little more dried.

The color possibilities are: white, silver pied, dark pieds, black shoulder silver pied & india blue

3 are dark so maybe dark pieds or blues and Hohenheim is going to be white or silver pied!!!! That's what I was really wanting.

I am new to peacocks but not everything else! My bators are winding down for the season. I only have a few Turkey eggs and quail eggs left.

Bugglesmommy thanks for the link,gonna read now....did u incubate peacock eggs on side or pointed end dwn? What was ur humidity?
