Hi there! So I have a peahen who for the past couple weeks has had droopy wings and closing her eyes off and on throughout the day. I thought maybe she was getting ready to lay an egg soon, but still has not. Today I checked her bottom to see if she was possibly egg bound. The first thing I noticed was that she had what looked to me was the size of a large pea prolapse. I used a gloved finger with Vaseline and pushed that back in and also checked to see if I could feel anything hard like an egg. I could not feel anything hard at all. She was wormed with Ivermectin topical for cattle April 23rd and looked her over good for lice/mites, which she does not have. She also has no other signs of being sick like wheezing, gasping, mucus from nose, etc. I am up for suggestions or maybe I should just wait and see if it is just her getting ready to lay? What's really throwing me off is her standing with her eyes closed, because I know that's a sign of not feeling weell. Please, any suggestions to try or put me at ease would be greatly appreciated!:)

What do her droppings look like? It may be some kind of stomach bug. If you notice unusual droppings, I would recommend probiotics and some electrolytes in her water (to pep her up). It could also just be the temperature. How hot is it there? How heat-resistant is her breed?

She is a cameo, so if I remember right they tolerate heat okay but it is not hot here at all, its been in the 50s/60s and we've had a couple days in the 70s/80s. I have a hard time just seeing her droppings bc she is with other peahens/peacocks so unless isolate her I wouldnt be able to tell. I havent seen anything abnormal in the aviary though but I will do a more thorough look.

How can you tell if something is stuck in her crop? Ive seen her eating and drinking normally but I dont know if that has anything to do with it or not. I will isolate her and see if I can get a good look at her droppings and get a pic tomorrow if they look abnormal. Thank you for your replies!

Here is a pic I was able to get of her this morning. She does this off and on all day in between eating and drinking.

All my other peahens and peacocks are doing well and have no symptoms of illness.

You may want to seperate her from the flock at this point. Are her eyes bubbly? Is her nose runny? How is her appetite? Is she breathing out of her mouth? At this point, taking note of her stool may be the most helpful thing you can do for her. It could also be coccidiosis - another reason to seperate her + check her droppings. If they're watery, bloody or green, these are all good indications that she may be coming down with it. She could have an impacted or sour crop. You can check this by feeling the sack attatched to her neck. If it's hard and lumpy, it may be impacted. If it's soft and squishy, it may be sour. Here's an article on that. https://www.fresheggsdaily.blog/2012/02/sour-crop.html Again, I would strongly suggest seperating her at this point since it's been a few weeks.
