peanut allergies in schools

My kids love their peanut butter sandwiches. Having said that, if one of them had a child in their class who was severely allergic to peanuts, we would happily give up eating peanut butter at school to protect their classmate's life.

I also feel like schools are total germ factories, and would applaud the school stopping and asking all of the kids to wash their hands a couple times a day. Can you imagine how disease would drop? If my kid school ISN'T stopping and making the entire class wash their hands before lunch or snacks, I would be grossed out, and I'm not a germaphobe.

Frankly, I am absolutely DISGUSTED that those "parents" have the audacity to picket the school in protest. It seems unbelievably cruel to a SIX YEAR OLD GIRL who can't help that she's allergic. Their kid's right to have a peanut butter sandwich is more important than another child's right to breathe? Really? Is a sandwich really that important?

Their attitude seems to be a reflection of how society has declined a bit. In the past, it was important to be thoughtful and respectful of others. Nowadays, it seems like it's valued to put yourself above everyone else.

I'm not even touching the religion in classrooms. Sorry.

I for one am still in school. We used to say the Lord's prayer every morning when we sang O'Canada. Then one family moved in who didn't like that and we can't say it anymore. A school of 400 kids in favor of saying it, and one thats not. Where's the sense in that?

it only makes no sense to you as long as your in the majority, it makes sense if you are the minority being told what religion to pray to

We don't force the kids to say it, if you dont want to, fine. We didn't teach the kids to follow that religion, we only said the prayer every morning and went on with our day.

Yep..makes me SICK... we used to say the Pledge Of Allegiance every morning at school, here in the United States...
That was ruined by some crazy folks.....

The who peanut issue is also ridiculous, my cousins school doesnt let you bring homebaked goods into the school period because you can't guarentee they are peanut free. Instead they make the kids go out and guy the junk from the store for their lunches. If someone is so alergic the other kids are forced to wash their hand and mouths 3x per day then they should not be in a public school. Plain and simple, make the other kids to that kinda stuff for the handful that are alergic?

my oldest son had dire milk allergies (instant vomiting and other bowel issues) and there was no stopping the milk program

and as for the religion issue... I dont want anyone ramming their religion down my kids throat ... I have VERY different beliefs... BUT I do NOT disagree with having my kids in the library working on a different project

to me yes it is... I will not get into a religion debate BUT what I am saying is that we need to RESPECT each other differences and not FORCE our on beliefs on others.

ETA: we had a principal who required ALL classes to have 20 minutes of bible read time at the beginning to each day. (this was in the early 80's)

To each their own opinion, we live in a free country. I just don't see a point in sending a kid to work on a project while everyone else recites a 15 second prayer.
