BYc has a trend on coop designs also

My 2 week old chicks fly over a 3 foot fence right now with out a problem

This photo was take the 30 of June 2014 and she has 23 chicks and they like to just fly all over and do so with ease .....

The rest of my chickens fly over a 6 foot fence most every day just because the grass is greener on the other side idea but find soon enough there isn't any water out there .....

You might want to think about a top on your coop to keep them in and predators out ...

I have 6 foot fencing all around this property and it is strong but
the predators still find a way in .....

Now Mr. Bob-Cat here brought his entire family over and I got
tired of dispatching them at a rate of over two dozen last year ....

Enjoy your poultry ventures and it sounds like you are going to have a pleasant environment for your birds ....

Welcome to the flock. I do hope you will add your coop (once finished) to the Coop section on here. I have a hunch it will be a standout with high tech features. Photos and descriptions would be fantastic.

I will do my best to take LOTS of pics - and encourage Beloved to write down the what/why/how of what he does so we can share that, too.

With all the excellent input - and I really can't thank y'all enough! - I think I'm going to try and con him into building a coop with a 4x8 footprint with an 8x16 enclosed, attached run that is roofed. I just mentioned and enclosed run (no dimensions, LOL) , and he said it would certainly be less expensive than chain-linking a 60x60 area... ;)

Denwendairy - I'm finally replying to you ;-)

Yes, I suspect the Golden Laced Wyandottes will be some of my favs, too; I *am* trying to have a nice, colorful mix while keeping my priority one hardy, docile birds.

Kelsie, we've decided to change where we're going to put the coop; the new location is nearer the house, has electric and water, plenty of shade during the summer, and protection from winter weather. It's also right beside our raised bed garden and the fenced pool area! My Beloved likes this MUCH better, and is on-board with making a large coop with a HUGE (we'll see how huge I can con him into, LOL) enclosed run.

He says we do have some electric fencing (I haven't seen it) that will work for when we want to let the ladies loose in the garden to eat up all the nasty bugs (squash and bean beetles, I'm looking at YOU!).

Here are some pics of the new location. This first pic is, effectively, right outside the side window in the bedroom. The coop, when it's built, would be *just* visible between the sunflowers and the little green shed, with the run going off to the right.

This second pic would show the end of the run (when it's built, of course) right where our mowing bug is. The house is off to the left of the garden, and, of course, you can see the pool area:

I think the girls will LOVE this, and it will also be close enough that if there's a nasty-bad trying to get to them, we'll definitely hear it from the room. There is the added benefit that we already have a security camera that shows about the same view as in the first picture. Our wireless already covers this area, and it's a very pleasant place to sit out of the sun on hot days.

My Beloved says this will be much easier and less expensive, and so I think I'll get the nice, large coop and HUGE (we'll see how huge he's willing to go....) that I'm yearning after. I really would prefer to have too BIG a coop than one that's just not quite enough...

Again, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all your help - and now I'm going off to examine the coops that have been posted to get some inspiration ;-)
