Pecked in the eye by a chicken??

Have you ever got pecked in the eye by a chicken??? Hahaha just curious.

Hah! Yes! And it was not funny.

I was pretty new to the chicken thing and had just gotten three adorable three-week old Light Brahmas. They were cuddly little lap urchins right from the start. One day, while doing some lap time, one was looking me right in the eye. I made the mistake of looking back.

Got pecked right in the eye! It hurt like hell, and I had some serious bleeding into the sclera. I made an emergency appointment at the eye doctor the next day to make sure my retina hadn't been detached. It was okay, but the macula had some damage. Then for a week, I sported a shiner.

Rule: never look a chicken in the eye.

Hahah ya I got pecked in the eye before and... It hurt and my eyelid started turin red and puffy and when I got inside.. there was a SCRATCH in my EYE!!!! And it was all blurry in that eye, I did research to see what happens and it's s"pose to heal after 3 days and it did! I just had to learn that lesson the hard way

Ouch! Glad it healed up ok and that it wasn't in the pupil.

Yup. I stuck my head through the pop door to check on a girl in the nest box. Another girl was just inside the door, and in her curiosity, pecked at my eye. Luckily, I blinked, so she just got my eyelid.

My husband did - was crouched down doing something and one of the girls tried to eat his eye! It really hurt, but we still laughed. Luckily, she just barely made a red dot on his sclera right in the outer corner. Now we make a big deal of it..."Watch your EYES - they love shiny things!!" whenever we're holding them. We still laugh about it.

Our BO pecked Grayson, our 4 year old son, in the eye. Twice! He thought it was hilarious. It was more like Buffy licked his eyeball rather than pecked it. I told him not to do it anymore because he could get hurt, but man did we laugh!

I am so completely freaked out about eye issues that I am tearing up just thinking about this. I am always careful about my chickens staying out of pecking distance to my eyes!

Not an hour ago I was in cleaning up the coop with 5 yr old hanging around pestering everyone at eye level on the perch...DO NOT STAND BY THAT ROOST BOY! I told him like 10 times and finally one of the "attack squad" girls (4 marans sisters) tried to peck his face and he moved quick. That was enough for him. Tears and out the door he went.
