peep, peep, peep

I thought I would update with new pictures. The little ladies are now a week old and growing SO fast.

Here is "Connor" ( my 6 yr old son named all of them after the Power Rangers

) They were just hanging out watching TV together.

Connor is, by far, our most friendly chick out of the bunch. We can tell her from the other barred rock by the markings on her beak. She's so calm and is so comfortable being held. I swear she stretches her neck as far as she can when I put my hand in the brooder like she's saying "pick me, pick me"!

Time for a nap. (nap number 354 of the day)

Even my hubby, who was totally against the chicks even living in the house, has taken a liking to them. Softy!

We are going on week two and I've lowered the temp down to 85 and they seem very OK with that. Still napping in the heat and then off to eat, drink and play at the other end of the brooder They are also getting good at making big messes in there. I don't remember telling them it was ok to poop in the food and water.

Yes they do enjoy that, I used plastic containers and put food and water on top of those, raise it up a bit. They slide off sometimes, but they figured it out. I have two plymouth rocks, and they are adorable

The girls got a perch tonight. They've all taken a turn at trying it out. They slip off and fall...get right back up and try again. Currently they are all sleeping on the ground right near it.

They also were given some yogurt. Watching them walk around it, sneaking up on it like it was gonna get them, was really funny. They never touched it though. We'll try something different once I get them some grit.

One of them is adamant about getting herself a dust bath. Hopefully it warms up a little this weekend and I can take them out for a short jaunt in the yard.

My son is in love with this girl. And the feeling is mutual.
