peep, peep, peep

Like the kind for a pellet stove?

Yes!

Check your bag to be sure there isn't any adhesive used in them. For what it's worth, I haven't found a brand that does.

I think like crows they are curious about shiny things. They are very strong even when young. I put some food in the palm of my hand to feed them and their pecks were almost hurtful (not intentionally) but it reminded me to take care abound them

Same thing happened to me. They peck at my jewelry and one of them pinched. Ouch. lol
Thank you! Wood pellets sound like an awesome idea. I'll check the bag.
They work really well at keeping down the smell. They don't have to be changed nearly as much as pine shavings! Are yours in the coop yet? When we had hens in the coop, wee use the deep litter method with the pellets and it's been great!

Oh, I am SOOO happy to hear that. We have fallen madly in love with our barred rocks. Seriously, they are too sweet for words. I also feel like the white rocks are taking queue's from them because they have been a lot less skiddish lately as well. Yay! ( edited to add: i will have to check out your picture later as they are blocked from this computer)

I can not say one bad thing about barred rocks. They are beautiful, they lay really well, they are cold hardy, extremely friendly, humorous and great foragers. If I hadn't of got that one hen, I wouldn't be this into chickens. The barred rock is what did it for me :)

We had four hens last spring that we had gotten at about laying age, from my brothers flock. RI Reds and Buffs. ( sadly they were taken from us way too soon by a predator) We loved them and they are what made me realize my love for chickens! ( I miss them!)
But there is something about raising them from chicks and watching their little personalities take form. I have been able to tell them apart since day 2. "Connor" --the one pictured most in this thread is amazingly sweet and never flinches when my big giant human hand reaches in to let him jump onto my palm. He practically begs to be taken out. He's really stolen our hearts.

( edited to add.....I ALWAYS call HER a HE because of HER name lol....my son named them all after Power Rangers. ( he's six) So even though they are all SHE'S, three of them have boys names.)
