Peep trying to hatch and blood!

Quote:
My experience has been in they haven't pipped(after most others had) or pipped and it's been more than 24 hours, I pull them and candle real quick. The ones that are too big look like there is barely an air cell. The chick's body "invades" the cell with it's body. I just lost 2 showgirls last week to this, I popped the last three open on the top after finding the dead one and they were ready to be out, no more blood in the veins at all, they just about burst out. If it is questionable, I candle and see no movement, I open the egg at the very top, just enough to see in. I look to see for movement, if that doesn't work I use a q-tip and gently touch them. If they move and haven't pipped the air cell I just cover the hole with a small piece of tape, this way it keeps the moisture in the shell and since it was the top it doesn't affect pipping. I ONLY do this after most have hatched and I am moving them to the brooder and there aren't any more pips. You also have to take into account that you will lose some no matter how good you get at it

I agree that I reacted to soon on that hatch. I have some banty eggs due in 2-3 days and I plan on letting them to the job themselves and the RIR due to hatch next week. Thanks for the advice much appreciated but Ruth keep your eyes open for me freaking out about the banty's they are very special to me and I really want all 4 to hatch.
