Peeps in Europe!

I had to take out 23 of 70 out of my incubator. They were not fertilized. 18 from one breeding group. That rooster is not doing his job. I wanted to butcher him anyways... so now it's sealed. He did a great job before... and taking care of his ladies. It's a shame... but with the white tail feather and now this... he's got to go.

I am also planing on building rooster coops for the time between breeding seasons. The girls need a break... and I need more space for chicks. It really makes sense.

dirty politics as all over the world.

there is no virus on the island where I live nor anyone I know or people from fb heard of anyone sick - except on tv. one girl says her father died of heart attack and they oficially claimed he died of coronavirus. as the ateist government ordered locking up all the churches and other religeous places I wonder what this is about. and the worst thing is we are not allowed to go out. people that still work (very few of them) have a special permit. the fine for getting out is 5000 eur and they already collected a lot of money. legal mafia.
Hi Greek.
You're government is very careful. Maybe too careful. Maybe not. Maybe its just fine you’ll never find out.

In my country we have a few small religious villages with high contamination rates and many severe sick and worse, because the people went to church and gather a lot. There were little restrictions until a week or 2 ago. And they didn’t know there was someone in their community who was infected. This way the virus spread unnoticed. And extremely fast.

My government was too late to close all places where people gather.

Have you seen our death rate. And the way its climbing?
The number of infestations are not reliable because we lack testing material.

On which island do you live?

Sorry about your 'man', them white feathers will get you every time! And hey, how many ladies is he servicing? I know in my prime, I could only service one a day ;) so give him a break! Poor boy was most likely tired.

I was going to get lumber on line, but the prices are out of this world! My new coop is just going to have to wait until our lumber company is taking private orders!

Saturday was such a beautiful day outside! Sunny and warm! Gave me and daughter #1 a chance to really clean the coop and the run! We had to sit up an enclosed area for them also...our neighbor lady declared earlier in the month that she did not want the hens in her garden as they are carrying the corona virus. She is old and well, instead of trying to explain to her, we just sat up a small enclosure with some fencing we had. We'll have to move it in a few days so they have a new area to scratch in. They loved the fresh grasses!
Then we went up into the woods and found a large tree branch which had fallen during our windy period a few weeks back. Going to make a new perch for the ladies to sit on.
Now, as we were cleaning up on Saturday, the wife say "I think we should get a couple more hens!" This really blew me away....from saying "I'll do nothing" to "hey, we need more" all in a years time! So now I have to rethink this whole thing out! Women!

Hope you all have a great week and stay safe!

hahaha... at the moment he only has 3 girls with him... 4 before the one drowned. So nothing too hard for a rooster. :idunno or so I was told.
But the white feathers... that's is really what is putting him on the butcher block. If I could find a home for him, I would. But with Corona and more than plenty of roosters running around... there is no home to be found at the moment.

hmmm wood being expensive... I hope not... at the moment I am trying to find a decent hardwarecloth that isn't too expensive. Looks like I am looking at 75 Euros at least for a mm thick wire... 12.7mm square 1mx25m At least for the outside "walls" the inside would be ok to go with a thinner wire. We made a plan and meassured and all this weekend... now I got to make plan for the head of the club to approve.

I didn't even notice you wrote twice... hey!!! see!!! She likes them!!! So excited for you!!! Want a rooster for them??? hahaha Now I will have some Sulmtaler hens in a few month.... just let me know hahaha

Chickens carrying the Corona virus.... ok.. yes there is no argueing.... smart thing to do. I agree!

:lau:lau
She probably thinks corona is like the bird flew, seeing most of the diseases came from China. What is it with them and their flews? They started the swine flew too. Anyway I am getting fed up of the fear mongering. Can't open FB or Twitter, without it being right in your face. :( OK already, it's enough. We just have to sit this out and hope it runs it course, sooner rather than later.

So now I think I have three cockerels after all. Will have to choose the best one to breed and sell the others. That means old Rooster Daddy has to go to the chopping block. Won't miss him. He's a bit of a jerk, but was good to his hens.

how do you plan to keep roosters: together or in separate coops?

I live in salamina, near athens.

we had nice weather, 24 celsius and virus cannot survive over 23 celsius. so this thing is pure nonsense here.

This 24 C probably is correct for a flu. But not for this Corona virus. This is not a flu. Corona viruses can stay alive until approx 37 C.

But nevertheless 24 C is great to enjoy the sun. Here its cold right now.

I visited quit a few Greek islands, but somehow I missed Salamis.
