I think one of my Light Sussex is wanting to brood. She has been sitting in the nest for two days now with my oldest hen is keeping her company. I just went down and removed the eggs, because the roosters haven't been gone long and I don't want those eggs hatching. I am thrilled she wants to, but not now!! Gosh, chickens and their timing...

I keep my chicks after about a week, in a brooder with a metal grated floor, have never had any problems with their feet getting messy or eating anything but their feed, the poop drops below, and it is super easy to take out the tray below and clean it. Probably pretty easy to make one.

I have been reading a very good article about introducing 4 -6 week old chicks to the adult group . The chicks had a seperate area with small holes where the big ones couldn’t go to. Its a proces with several steps. But more BYC people claim that this works great because the adults don’t see the little ones as a threat. I think Aart or Dobeylover wrote it. Shouldn’t be hard to find it.

These are my hen chicks that hatched March 29th. They have turned into young ladies. It's funny, but the cockerels remind me so much of teenage boys in their behavior. It's funny watching them!

Did I get any cocks from the white!!! I sure did!!!! 19 chicks hatched... I got 6 hens... I have so many cockerels this year!! I am getting ready to butcher the first 10 tomorrow. And I got some others lined up in a couple of weeks.

Due to the stress caused by the prolonged "flockdown" here in Germany, this year I have a lot of cockerels too.

@Erba .. I wasn't laughing at you.. just my situation with all the cockerels... I have so many this year... my second hatch 23 roosters and 14 hens. ... and most of them have bad combs.
And one of my really really fantastic looking roosters from the first hatch... well he decited to not grow one of his waddles.
So I am feeling a little sarcastic and frustrated.... sorry!

I am trying! I have adds on ebay kleinanzeigen and deine Tierwelt... I posted on Instagram and facebook on my own page. Not one response this year! I was able to sell 2 the other day to a person who had asked about hens and a rooster a few months ago... and he dicided to take 2. There are so many roosters for sale out there at the moment... nobody wants them.
