Sorry you lost you’re dog @maceleneo . That must be very difficult especially if you live alone. I hope you’re chickens are nice company and can give a little comfort.

And thanks for the kind words about the rooster. I still have him.
Because its getting colder we can open one window on the right site, just a little. That way we don’t hear him too much in our bedroom. But he still has to go bc he’s waking up two neighbours too. And also bc he’s definitely too big for the little Dutch. They are probably a bit nervous with him around. These small girls don’t like his attempts to mate and flee from him.

@Skyle , welcome to this thread.
What kind of poultry do you have?
Hi everyone, thank you for inviting me to join this thread.
I discovered purebreds chicken breeding only few years ago and now I'm currently gaining experience with breeds, standards, etc. (I still have to partecipate my first show, I hope to do it in these months:fl)
I started with white columbian black/blue Brahmas. Then I added Japanese quails and Chinese quails. I also got some chicken breeding couples of different colours/breeds to study them for some months and find another breed to start breeding (and keep the others as pets). Between black Brahmas, millefleur Cochins and black Cochins I think I'll choose the black Cochins. I think it's a good couple, the one that follows more the standard of the three groups; plus I'm fascinated by the BBS gene and this breed's standard accepts all these three colours.
With the quails, I have golden and pharaoh Japaneses. Talking about the Chinese ones, I have 4 eggs (it was just an experiment) in the incubator from my silver couple that will hatch in 6 days.

Welcome @Skyle , I missed the post, so where are you from ? I have black Cochins too, I like them, though they are not great egg layers.
@maceleneo I have OE chicks, will see how many survive the cats. I have lost quite a few chicken this summer to cats and I still cannot catch them in the trap.
@BDutch and @AnnaWolf you guys have strange neighbors... Mine have never complained about the roosters.. actually here neighbors can't complain 😄😄😄

Does anybody have frizzle chicken? I would like to hear other opinions, as I am not so impressed with mine.

Also, I have been looking for Minorcas and would like to hear/well, read/ owners opinions about the breed.

Molting season.... he used to be so beautiful and proud

Thank you! I live near the northen-easth of Italy. My Cochins lay pretty well (I guess they aren't considered good layers because they go broody very often, right?), but one of them is already broody (she's 6-7 months old) along with a black Brahma (she's also young, about 7-8 months old); they went broody the same day, 5 days ago.
I have 4 eggs in the incubator (they will hatch in 4 days), I'm thinking about giving one-two chicks to each pullet if they don't give up🤔 But I'm worried they may be too young to become mothers.

if they get broody they are ready to be mothers.

minorcas lay a lot of big eggs and have more meat than other mediterranian chickens.

Welcome to this thread!
I think you could give it a try. Give them the chicks... see how they react. You can always put the chicks in a brooder.
