Peeps in Europe!

So folk...I just couldn't wait until after my holiday in Wales to start incubating, and now I'm very glad I did it. Came back to no eggs. Either my daughter took them or my holiday care taker had them or they are both moulting now. Put eleven eggs in on the 20th September from the one hen still laying and came back yesterday and candled them. Was expecting a lot of infertile eggs, so close to the moult?, but low and behold only one was infertile and one had a blood ring, but 9 are good to go. I know it is very late for a hatch, but I desperately need some more hens.

Next spring I am going to order eggs from a Sussex hobby breeder I found on the internet and hatch those for the genetics, so this will be my last hatch with these two hens. My cockerel and pullet come from the same hen and this hatch is from the eggs of the other hen.

Should have bought this Bruja incubator a long time ago, I am really loving it. Came back and it had only lost 5% of the humidity and the temperature is still spot on.

Crossing my fingers that something at least hatches, because I have a miserable track record in hatching. :th

Erba, have you thought of going thru the "Sonderverein" for sussex? There are a lot of hybrids out there that are called sussex. So a hobby breeder might be breeding with those and not realize it. Not all breeders are online. Not saying your breeder doesn't have decent birds... just wanting to let you know how to find more breeders and maybe have more options.

Thanks for the tip but that verein is rarely updated. Most of the breeders are in Bavaria or far up north. The one in Ulm only sells hens. There is a guy on ebay who sells them, but had a bad review for fertility issues, but if he is still selling them in Spring I might give him a try. The one here has show birds and also ships eggs. This is the one I was thinking of, if they are even still selling eggs by then... again in Bavaria!

There is nothing at all in Baden .. looks like becoming a small breeder just might be worth it, but thats not what I want right now. I've got to somehow find a source for my birds and searching all the local Kleintier markets in person for the chance of finding a couple of Sussex birds is not a reliable supply. Very frustrating!

Well, my plan is it to go to Hannover in December. If you'd like I could get you some breeder infos.
You could also check out the catalog for the 2018 breeders that attented the Hannover show is still online. The breeds are listed and the breeders named. Maybe you can find someone.
