Thanks everyone for the suggestions to sale the eggs. But we don't have a permit to sell our eggs. Just have to find new friends to give them to.

You don't need a permit to sell eggs. You would have to produce an enormous amount of eggs before you need a permit. You, as a private person, are allowed to sell them at your door or where the chickens are being kept (in case that is a different address). You are not supposed to sort them for size... you don't need to mark them. My neighbor has a wooden box outside... people can take egg boxes out and put the money in the mail box. Done. I have seen this in different german forums... It really is ok for you to do that.

he doesn't. One just assumes (and you know what happens when you assume)...you need a permit for providing food to others. That's all.

boil some basil, oregano and thyme and add it (mayby 1 tbs to 1l of water) to their drinking water for at least 2 weeks. make sure to make it fresh daily. that is a natural remedy for cocci.

I know oregano is healthy and helps to prevent sickness. Common horsetail or toad pipe can give chickens a health boost too. Apple cider vinager and garlic in the drinking water does this too.

I know many herbs and fresh greens are a good supplement for chickens because of the fresh vitamins. .But I didn’t know oregano, basil and thyme are so healthy it can cure coccidiosis in this combination.
I dont understand why you boil it though?Fresh it has more nutrients.

@Papa John59 , being abroad on hollidays doesn’t mean I will not read about chickens ! Smartphones can be used all over the EU. And my provider has a good deal for CH too. Same bundle, same conditions as EU union countries.

Well... I can give you a reason.. mine won't eat it... I have to make them consume it... Hide it like you hide vegetables for little kids.
I will try... I am growing Oregano at the chicken coop ... and I have plenty of thyme... Will try it.

Hi everyone, I haven't checked in, in a while (notifiations are non existant for this thread here on BYC apparently.) Anyway I have been rather busy fixing stuff around the house lately, and there has been nothing really new, except, five of my young chickens have suddenly dissappeared. Really don't know where they went, because there is no sign of them, not even feathers. But probably a predator took them. C'est la vie, here in the countryside. As soon as I slaughter the old rooster, I will probably start incubating again. But I've got more pressing things to take care of before I get around to chopping heads.

I have a door bell that wasn't broken, but all the platstic had disintegrated on the buttons, and when I had a look in the back at the transformer it was pretty rusted out, so I decided to replace the whole thing. I sure am glad I can do all this crap myself. Was also a good reason to finally buy a wire tester. Yeah! I did have the schrewdriver thingy, but this is a non contact tester, so really cool.

My kitchen tap also broke so my DD's boyfriend replaced it for me, with a newer better one I bought. And my post box has been out of order a while now....yup I leave things until they really start annoying me...lol. So the new one still has to go up, and I might start that project today.

The weather here is now is stabilizing, but there will be no signs of gettting anywhere near last summer's temperatures. My sweet corn and brassicas are loving it though, and I will be harvesting the first potatoes soon...

fresh herbs contain a lot of water. they are much stronger if dried and boiled.

fresh nettle contains 17% proteins and dried 40%!

Sorry @Erba about your missing chickens. That really sucks.
I was missing one hen chick. I didn't notice it until it was time to put rings on them. There were just too many running around to count. My guess is, that is was ravens... somehow.
Don't know how big yours were... a fox would have killed probably killed more.

Good luck with the new hatch!!! I will be butchering next Saturday if the weather holds up (and my cone and knives came in the mail)
