Peeps in Europe!

AHH, so the browns are a 3rd generation. This is a new thing. I was planning to find a white Plymouth Rock rooster in the summer, but I guess I will stick to my RIR over white Leghorn. And I am planning to put my RIR rooster with these ISA/Loghman browns to see what happens. Thank you for the information, really interesting.

Thank you, I am used to SZ, standard size 🙂

Are your dog's coping well with the chicken? You can train them to live together. I gave up veggies because of the chicken.

Black hybrids, do you mean Harco/Super Harco?
Yes they are well trained. 1 ignores them totally or when they come closer than 1m she will move. The other one looks at them like chicken tv. She will look for them and sniffs them and than the chikies startlle and jump or run away:lau

what breed are your dogs?

my german shepherds cannot be trained. my boy killed 5 chickens. when he sees any animal (cat, bird, hedgehog, etc.) he becomes possessed and out of control. my girls are more manageable if he is not with them but still they cannot be trusted.

But I am glad I have a secure run for them. My mother inlaw has a husky who has a imense prey drive. Never got them but would really like too.

I just realized that 200 x 200 is way too big for a breeder pen. Like my coop is not even that big..lol So I have sized it down. The height is still 200cm in the front and 180cm at the back. The roof has to be 200 x 200 cm for the eaves. The pen will now be 150cm high and 170cm wide in the front the back panel height 130, so a 20° slant to the back for run off. I'm also not using a metal roof, because no one sells them in that length here. So I'm going with corrugated tar roofing, because that comes in 200cm lengths. Good thing Bauhaus is open for business. Hoping Freiburg stays under the corona limit, so I can get my stuff!

and this is my dog. she runs after everything wild around here, but leaves the chickens in peace, I guess she understands they are family, but I know that this hasn't much to do with my training, she just has a strong protection instinct and I love it. there are a lot of predators around here and I couldn't let the chickens free-range without her watching for them.
