Are you not allowed to keep them in your area or do you just think your neighbor wouldn’t like it. These are different, if your neighbors just wouldn’t like it, I think you should keep one, give them fresh eggs and hope they don’t mind the crowing. You would still have to rehome the others though. There is a rehomeing section in this forum, and you could post in your state thread. Make sure to add pictures and state your location in those posts. Also ask everyone you know who has chickens, maybe they know someone who would take one, or could take one themselves . A good old fashioned flyer could work as well. Good luck!Thank you folks! Such a shame, what are the odds.We can’t keep cockerels with our neighbours so close. They’re the friendliest little things too.
Any ideas what we can do with them? Any tips on re homing them?
If it’s allowed to keep one, you could ask your neighbors, and see if they really would mind. If you want to keep one, even if they mind, you should. Do your neighbors have barking dogs, or loud kids? Do they ask you if you mind? Just some things to think about. You will still need to rehome two though… good luck! Here’s the link to find state threads: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/find-your-states-or-your-countrys-thread.270925/Thank you so much for your helpful advice! We would love to keep one, especially as they have been raised by us, but I fear the crowing will drive the neighbours crazy if it’s early in the mornings. We live in a rural area, but it is a small village.
Can I ask if it’s a given that all roosters will start to crow eventually? Or is that wishful thinking - a cockerel without a crow…![]()
