Depending upon the strain, they are more for "pretty" than for production. They are generally even tempered and friendly but very frequently go broody.

Again depending upon the strain-- lay a dozen eggs, go broody, raise chicks for 4 or 5 weeks, lay a dozen eggs, go broody, raise chicks for 4 or 5 weeks-- and repeat as many times in a sason as you can get away with. Sort of their motto.
