Pekin Duck Club!

@RileyandLD It is very hard to understand what is going on in the mind of a duck especially a drake. lol Here we have the opposite. Our drake who my dh and I both raised inside because his mom rejected him loves my dh and is very affectionate with him till I make an appearance then he totally turns on my dh biting his shoes, pants anything he can get hold of. Skin if he can. What makes him change? Unless he sees my dh as a rival and I really think he does. I have tried to get him to do what I do with Opie when he gets carried away with me but he won't be consistent so I just let the 2 of them work it out.

I wish I was an animal behaviorist [I think after we live with them long enough we are in a way] but this is a curve ball that Riley is not aggressive towards a male but is towards you and Mom. Your going to have to keep convincing Riley that you 2 are the dominant ones in the flock not him. Sooner or later the light bulb will come on.

Please add me!! I have 2 beautiful Pekins, one male and one female. Their names are Big duck and Little duck lol. Original I know!

My Drake chases my dogs any time they're out together. My min pin will run around having a blast but my great Dane won't go into the yard if he's out. I want them to be able to co-exist outside together so how do I stop him from going after them? The dogs could honestly care less about the ducks but he does not like them!

Testosterone gets the best of em. lol

Best you can do is stop the drake from chasing them. use the broom or a long pole and stop him in his tracks before he starts but when you see he is going to. I haven't had to do this with my drakes but my geese. As soon as I see them start to go after the dogs I put a stop to it with a long bamboo pole and if I don't Have it I get between them and make the geese leave them alone. I never let them all be together when I can't be with them. The only way to train is to be consistent.

Speaking of ducks and hormones my 4 month old pekin is starting his courtship of he lady Cayuga. I was wondering what the heck he was doing...he would burp then stick out his neck and run around a little bit. I did a search and found out its a mating behavior. They grow up so fast....

Isn't that hilarious,Having only Muscovy's until this past spring I had never seen a drake do what you just described My Muscovy drakes don't do it. So first time I saw my Runner drake burp and stick out his neck then run around I seriously thought he had something stuck in his throat. lol Thankfully not. I get the biggest kick out of him.

My female Pekin named Bell has a bad leg so I've been keeping her locked in a dog kennel in my garage and giving her physical therapy in the tube twice a day. She loves it but she gets water everywhere.I leave her in there about 30 min while I clean out her cage and take her out and dry her off and then massage the leg a little. I can't leave her with my flock cause she can't run or defend herself if she had to.
Has anyone else here ever have a duck hurt their leg? If so how did you treat it and what was the outcome?
