Pekin Duck Club!

Hi I'm new to BYC hope it's ok l post on this thread l through you guys might be able to answer my
Question. I have a pican duck that has a hurt leg it's not broken l think it's dislocated he won't put wait on it and holds it straight out behind him 24/7 it has been a week and a half I am getting weird if you have any suggestions it would be most appropriated

@BBCHICKS123 Is his leg swollen red hot to touch? I have to rec a Vet. Poor thing is most likely in alot of pain. Any idea how it happened. Keep him in a small area when he is safe and isn't over doing. He needs to rest . If you can bring him inside you could put him in a warm tub of water and see how he moves the leg when he is floating.[don't leave him unattended though] and never put him back outside while wet if your having frigid temps.

I agree with Miss Lydia. Someone needs to take a gentle close look and see what's going on. Sometimes string or wire can get wrapped around the leg, sometimes there is injury, infection . . . Get to a vet if at all possible, and meanwhile, I'd try to get him into a tub of lukewarm to cool water and let him float. Stay with him don't leave him alone in the water since he's injured. While he is in the tub, watch closely to see if he can move the leg at all, if there is an unusual odor, check the vent, look for anything out of place. Is he breathing okay? Pooping?

Are you sure he is a he? Females can have leg problems due to egg binding or mating injury.

Please keep us posted.

I have been letting him swim in the sink sense the day l found him it does not seeming to help, he won't even move it in the water. I have checked out his leg once a day after l let him swim there is nothing rapped around it. I called the vet and asked how much it would cost to bring him in it would be $100 just to get to see the vet that's with out paying for medicine or surgery if need be l love this duck so much but am in no financial state to pay that kind of money

his leg is hotter than the other one but not by to much but it's noticeable its swollen a bit at the top thanks for all the help l keep you posted if you have any more thoughts I would love to hear them.

Try some T Relief ointment, you can get it at some drugstores - call ahead. Rub it on the upper part of the leg at night and a couple times during the day...keep him safe and in a quiet place that is not very cold...give tub time daily if possible, keep us posted.

hey everyone I've got another little question for yall. it's about Rileys aggressive behavior. now I've been doing what you guys have told me (no change as of yet)but I have noticed something quite strange. he doesn't attack my boyfriend Chris, and mom and I are able to pet Riley when he is around, but the second he leaves Riley acts up again. any ideas as to why this is, because I would have through it would have been the other way around, him attacking Chris and not us.
