Hi I'm new to BYC hope it's ok l post on this thread l through you guys might be able to answer my
Question. I have a pican duck that has a hurt leg it's not broken l think it's dislocated he won't put wait on it and holds it straight out behind him 24/7 it has been a week and a half I am getting weird if you have any suggestions it would be most appropriated
@BBCHICKS123 Is his leg swollen red hot to touch? I have to rec a Vet. Poor thing is most likely in alot of pain. Any idea how it happened. Keep him in a small area when he is safe and isn't over doing. He needs to rest . If you can bring him inside you could put him in a warm tub of water and see how he moves the leg when he is floating.[don't leave him unattended though] and never put him back outside while wet if your having frigid temps.
I agree with Miss Lydia. Someone needs to take a gentle close look and see what's going on. Sometimes string or wire can get wrapped around the leg, sometimes there is injury, infection . . . Get to a vet if at all possible, and meanwhile, I'd try to get him into a tub of lukewarm to cool water and let him float. Stay with him don't leave him alone in the water since he's injured. While he is in the tub, watch closely to see if he can move the leg at all, if there is an unusual odor, check the vent, look for anything out of place. Is he breathing okay? Pooping?
Are you sure he is a he? Females can have leg problems due to egg binding or mating injury.
Please keep us posted.
