I'm new to ducks. thanks for showing this, How do they get it and where do you get the meds? Should you have them on hand jic?!

I think it's important to have a bird first aid kit...
Some things I always have on hand just in case are:
Neosporin (w/o pain reliever)
Blukote/Woundkote
NuStock
Chicken/Duck Diaper
Chicken Saddle
Niacin (no flush-free, time-release niacin)
Poly-Vi-Sol (without iron)
Vet Wrap
Scissors
Tweezers
Old Cloths
Rubber Gloves
Gauze

The only medication I was using to help with the recent bumblefoot was NuStock. However, because she had a pretty case of it, I ordered the koi meds (tricide-neo) which you can get here http://www.koiacres.com/featured/tricide-neo.html
It's a medicine for koi but helps to get rid of the staph infection. Bumblefoot can be caused by your bird cutting it's foot on something - sharp rock, stick, nails, glass, etc. I think I figured out that my ducks were cutting themselves on an old washtub that they were climbing in and out of. There was some sharp torn metal on it. I got rid of it before I started treating or they just would have continued to hurt themselves. Hopefully now I won't have as many, or any, issues.

I have 11 pekin crosses, they are just a month old. They are half brown runner. Sweet little babies. If this thread is for purebred owners only then im sorry for posting.

I know this is a pekin thread but since sam-i-am is gone and all I have left is Maya the chicken. Just wanted to let you know that.my lone superhen is doing fine may have a pet rhode island red now. Still want a jumbo pekin though!

This is my first 3, Donald and Plucky(white) and Daffy(brown) just out of the hatcher.

Here is their siblings just out of the hatcher.

This is the last 3 to hatch, 2 were disabled, backward pips. They walked in circles and fell backwards when eating or drinking, named them Flip and Flop. I kept them in my house and worked with them they are now able to live a normal life. Still walk in circles but they get to where they are going. They are momma's babies!

Great list. Another great thing to have on hand is Penicillin G.You can get it at most local feed stores in the fridge section and is safe to use on ducks, you just have to make sure you are giving them probiotics (yogurt for example) because the Penicillin G and fishmox kills the good bacteria in their systems and you have to keep them balanced.

My pekins name is quacky. I think it's a he but I don't know yet because he only chirps and didn't start quacking. I heard once they quack you'll know if its male or female. In just about a month and a half he's gotten so big! He knows when I'm going to feed him too. He flips out and won't even let me put his bowl down he's so excited! I also think he's pigeon toed. He literally crosses his feet one over then other when he walks its so cute! Lol also question: are they supposed to have an extra nail or "toe" on the back of their leg that sticks out because I think mine does. Btw he loves his snacks: yogurt, wet baby food, carrots, and lettuce. Still introducing him to new things
