Yes they are best to use cat nail clippers that's what we use and do a little bit at a time

My husband cuts my little bantem hen's nails with dog nail clippers about every three months. They don't have to be cut to often, because she keeps them trimmed down when she gets out scratching around our yard.

Why is my Pekin turning yellow? She seems to be molting right now. Does that have something to do with it? She is getting yellower everyday. Chest mainly, with some on her head and back. Is this normal or something I need to be worried about?

My Zwei goes through yellow phases, and I think it's something in her environment. Because she will be pristine white, then soon after, have all kinds of yellow tinges in her feathers. Haven't figured out what it is. Maybe sliding against something a little oily, and then it doesn't quite wash off in the swim pan.

Looking for some quick advice. I acquired a duck that I believe to be a female the other day and she seemed fine. She is approx 1 month old when I went out to the brooder this morning she was on her back and couldn't get up, my older ducks were clumsy when they were young but not that bad. Would it be normal for a pekin to not be able to get off its back? I also noticed when she was walking that her feet turn in a little but when standing they are straight, could she be develop a problem with her legs or is she just developing?

My first thought is a possible niacin deficiency. She is of the age it can start showing up. Ducklings differ in their required niacin levels, so I would get her on 150 mg niacin per gallon of water for two months. It ought not affect the others. I am told not to use no-flush or timed release, just plain niacin capsules, emptied into water (I found mine at the local drugstore).

Any chance she could have been injured or poisoned? Those are other possibilities. I am not able to stay in front of the computer all day, but I will check back when I can.

In any case, if you are not already giving them once a week poultry vitamins, I would start doing that.

I have four Pekin Drakes, they all turned yellow after molting. They finally turned white again after a couple of weeks. They free range, so I thought it could have something to do with their diet.

I haven't had any problems with the other ducks as far as poisoning and unless someone did last night while I was sleeping it would have to be environmental. No injury that I can tell. I am going to try the niacin and see what have happens.
