Pekin Duck Club!

Oh, dear that is terrible. I am not familiar with your predation risk.. could be large cats(and i don't mean the kind that snuggle in your bed) sadly quite a few predators can climb.

Are you able to reinforce your existing pen? perhaps a roof? you can get your remaining some buddies, i know in the state of shock your in.. but it doesn't have to mean you get out of keeping them entirely.
Thank you for your kind reply. Yes, we will need to rethink our set up. I do agree it should include a cover obviously. Unfortunately we found that out. I am kind of in shock and will need some time.

I would love to join the pekin club! I have 3 pekins that are approximately 4 weeks old and 2 rouens that are 6 days. All are from TSC. We have Waterhead Peck(my 9 yr.old son's pekin), Rosie(my 7 yr.old daughter's pekin), Duncan(my pekin) and then kiwi and quackers (the rouens). Waterhead is starting to get more of a raspy peep, so we think he is a boy. The others we have no clue! We are first time duck owners and are totally in love! Our ducks love asparagus as a treat. The picture is of my daughter letting Rosie assist her with a dental cleaning exercise.

That pic is hilarious :D!!

I'm so sorry. My heart is breaking for you :(. It will definitely take some time. Praying for you. I know that would be a very tough decision.

Thanks for the replies about the pool, I can wait then.
After giving up on them using the ramp and just putting them inside myself and just keeping the food outside I noticed today they wondered right in their house earlier to eat bc I had kept their food inside today bc of a chance of down pours. I had went outside to take the food out for them for a few since rain hadn't started yet but apparently didnt need to! Yippy!

X2!! Poor Duckie :(. Sometimes I'd like to see a duck drop kick a chicken!!

I totally agree with GQ Stacy AK keep your ducks separate till she heals and i wouldn't house them together at night either. This may have been what started her eye problem to begin with.

Glad you got on top of it fast.

I'm so mad at those darn chickens! Why can't they just leave her alone! They have a separate sleeping area built on the otherside of the wall that they can get into from inside the coop. The chickens don't bother with it since it's ground level so I know it's not happening at night. They seem to be just picking on her during the day. Evil little birds... I've caught my rooster standing on her back before and holding her down. I'm thinking he is going that and the other chickens are pecking her while she's down. She needs to just whack them with her wing! She caught me in the face one time and it left a bruise!

This is my first pekin, Peep. I am planning on getting another when my feed store gets a new batch in! :) I've been a collector or rubber ducks for a while. I have 187 and now my collection has finally come to life!

The trouble is ducks fight differently, i should know i see enough of it here lol .. chickens are a piece of work sometimes.. i keep many small flocks vs one big one because their dynamics and pecking orders are so rigid, a major advantage with ducks is while they can fight and do have pecking orders they usually don't get so nasty about it. My drakes duke it out but no one has ever been seriously injured and ducks don't usually go after injured birds.. chickens are awful for that too.. Had the odd cockeral fight here.. oye.

aw, so cute! good that your getting a friend ducks are flock animals and really do benefit from the company of others.

My ducks won't take nothing off the chickens but different breed to I think Muscovy's may be a bit tougher,. My Game roo use to try and push around a drake and the gander but he finally learned that wasn't such a good idea. You may just have to keep them separated for good. How is her eye looking tonight?
