Pekin Duck Club!

I just made an account so I'm not sure if I'm typing in the right space lol, but I will say it's a pretty cool website! I have a question that maybe one of y'all can answer for me. I have one pekin drake and a cayuga hen, they're both the same age, we rescued them when they were ducklings about 3 months ago. I was just wondering if they can breed because they're different breeds, when they would breed, and anything special I need to know to get healthy ducklings.:) Thanks so much!

It appears that she has laid more eggs and they are developed past the point of when we checked last
Well after 2 months of sitting quacky duck finally has her babies! 10 to be exact. I was surprised that she had them all over the place when they were soo tiny. Only my 2nd experience with duckling but the other mama seemed to be a bit more careful with them! this little guy got left in the creek I found him trying to fight off my 7 one month old ducklings who were taking turns trying to drown him. He's smaller than the rest but kept up all day long until that point. I put him back with the mom but when they walked away he was just too tired to follow.

His beak is really pink compared to the others but is eating and drinking fine and don't seem to have any issues. Do you think they will except him back again?

Kim, you can definitely try to get him back with mom and the siblings. But keep a watchful eye out on him. If it seems they leave him behind again, take him away again and try to get one other one (for company) and raise him yourself.

And DEFINITELY make sure that the one month olds don't have access to the little ones til they're at least a month old themselves! You can separate them with a fence so they can see but not hurt them. They can really hurt and even kill the babies just to establish their dominance and assuage their jealousy.

I'll take care of him til he's old enough to care for himself if need be but he's really lonely and I'm sure would be happier with mom and siblings. I'm going to try when the opportunity arises. Our ducks are free range with plenty of places to run and swim not that easy to catch one. This mama stays in a little ditch connected to the creek, she knows we can't get down there and i drop the food over the bridge to her, she still hisses at me from there so getting one of her babies is not likely. The 1 month olds are with there mom and my one surviving drake. One big family and aside from the issue with the duckling left alone they have not shown any aggression towards the babies. They stay close by each other, the two groups but don't mingle or eat together. I'm can't pen any of them up cause if a mink gets in there I'll lose them all

Does anyone know if my Cayuga and Pekin will ever breed? I was just wondering because they're different types of ducks.

I read something about that a pekin and a different breed would still mate. ( I had the same question before too because I have a pekin and two anconas) I wanted to know if the pekin and anconas would breed so I looked it up and I found that theu do but you will just have to characteristics of those two kinds of ducks in the ducklings

I believe they should mate just fine. I've had a mallard/Rouen drake duck make babies with a Blue Swedish female duck. They had a clutch I didn't find and they had a son that came out with quite interesting feathering.
