Pekin Duck Club!

400

My kids my husband named them, this is Donald and daisy. They are bigger now.
cute little fuzzy swimmers.

Alright I need advice! My ducks (2 pekin) about 6 weeks plus drink a ton of water like 10 liters a day, I have to refill the water (5 liters) 2 times a day I am baffled...... is this normal.....and I do have cedar shavings in the coop....is that bad? Thank you!
Mine are about that age and yes, it is QUITE normal. They may just be splashing it and spilling. My kids cant resist doing that, so we are constantly filling their water.
I still use cedar with mine, but I mix it with straw. Cedar is good at absorbing, while the straw is an excellent insulator. We use mainly straw because it composts quicker than wood.

I am new to ducks, having tried everything else I thought why not.
I have 5 pekins. I started with a pair that my neighbor gave me, they ended up both being boys so I bought 3 baby girls in Oct. One of the "girls" turned out to be a boy. He has issues. He will be running along and collapse, cant get up, goes stiff, his legs just don't work. Like a fainting goat. Then he gets over it and hes up and is fine again. Hes done this since he was a gosling. IS this something Pekins do?

The two original boys stay together and the three oct babies stay together. The original boys seem to be gay, they fight and they do it with each other, and completely ignore the two girls. Although they will chase the goose hens around if the ganders aren't watching close enough.
The fainting duck doesn't even try to mate with the duck hens. They aren't laying yet so maybe they are still too young to mate.

Funny ducks; yours are so cute. Regarding the guy who falls down, I'd have no idea since I don't own ducks, I only love them. Try to get ahold of Amiga. She's a very knowledgeable keeper of fowl and may be able to offer some insight.

Please add me, I need help or I should say Donald needs help. My Donald is about 6 to 8 years old, male and his tail is dragging and white matter in one eye. I've been looking on line and I think he has a respiratory infection. My husband refuses to take him to a vet and I've tried contacting a vet nearby, I left a message but have not heard back. there isn't many here that will treat ducks. My husband went to Orschlen's and bought Terra-Vet 10, which is a Tetracycline Hydrochloride Soluble Powder without asking for help. I don't know if I can give it to him, or how much or how often. If anyone can help me please give me some advice, Thank you
