Pekin Duck Club!

That is so sad about the fire. Do you have any proof it was the neighbors so that you can press charges?

AFM: We may have had a break through this morning. Or it may have been the fact that I fed them peas last night by hand. I was cleaning the coop and both ducks came up and started nibbling at my clothes - normally they run to the other end of the coop while I am cleaning.

What can you guys tell me about duck diapers? Who uses them? Where did you get them? Worth the investment?

So it runs true to what I've been saying-That Duck Poop is Acidic! It will be good for my Clematis come fall.
My next question would be if I should try to keep the waste separate when feasible. Or just save my fine hair

, and just put them in one pile!
Reapted use can aciditfy the soil, but if it gets to acidic you can add wood ashes to level it back out. I'm wonder ing if it 's the nitrgen levels that make to acidic. To much nitrogen CAN burn your plants. I'm glad that this was pointed out because of what I had read in Mother Earth News too. I'm going to use it definatley but I am going to make sure that it's done in the fall or the when I plant, not through out. I add it to my compost soil along with lots of other things so it's never JUS poop.

My two Pekins are about 7 weeks now. They now are outside full time and sleep in an old dog house with a latched door to keep them safe at night. When they were in the house, I would fill a plastic tub for them to swim in and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. But now that they are outside, I have a plastic kiddie pool and they freak out when I put them in it. My ducks seem so skiddish and are hard as I try to make them friendly, they freak out anytime I get close. How can I get them more excited about swimming in the pool? We will be moving in August to 10 acres with a pond so they will have lots of area to roam and swim. But right now we are in a city lot and I'll I can provide is the kiddie pool. We let them roam the yard all day. We have chickens as well and the chickens have been using the duck's house as their nesting box, lol.

Unfortunately no. Just a history of them messing with our property and dealing drugs behind our apartment.

So Sorry Chickiemommie. I had to have animal control remove a neighbor dog after he ignored my warning. We don't talk anymore. I didn't lose the whole coop, though.
Look who ventured outside today!

They are ignoring their new pool. I was told they can't get in it and should bury it. However I also heard chickens can drown in it. What to do?

I'm afraid of my chickens drowning too. They seem smart enough to avoid the pool (we have a huge kiddie pool) so i just used a few rocks as ramps. .. it needs some improvement. I have to help them in and out of it as it is now but they are starting to figure out to climb up on the rocks.

P-Funk, is there new pool pictured?

I am getting a kiddy pool but right now I have a black plastic horse waterer that is large enough for my 2 ducks to get into and they love it. The chickens I have never worried about... mine isn't dug in at all and my ducks can get into it and out of it fine. I do, just for looks, want to dig it a bit in though. I use that as the main waterer too including the chickens. The chickens just fly up on the edge of it and drink out of it. I have had one time when Ducky did get angry and push a chicken in but the chicken just flew out....

This is my first year with ducks. Ive got 3 pekins and 3 rouens. Been in the chicken busieness fer a while tho....
