Pekin Duck Club!

Sounds about right! Pekins grow very fast! My ducky had little yellow fuzzies when she was big, we just had to be patient for her to feather out. I bet the will be gorgeous in no time! Please feel free to share pix :)

Do they need water everyday like for swimming or playing. Or can they do with out it. I was wondering if this could be a reason they aren't feathering. But i know nothing about ducks

i have a question about Pekins. i bought my first 2 about 3 weeks ago and i have noticed a crazy amount of growth from them but they have no feathers they are about 75 % white now and have no feathers just big white fuzz balls. I dont know if this is normal and im being in patient or am i doing something wrong. also they are about 6 weeks old just taking a wild guess.
Totally normal, they grow crazy fast. :)

They should have some swim time everyday in the tub for about 5 minutes or so until their feathers get in. Plus this gives them time to clean out their nose holes really good. Having water or not does not affect feather growth, you pekins are totally normal with their feather growth. Alos if you know nothing about ducks, its great that you ask quesitons but please for the sake of your duck research research research. you can never know to much and it will make everything go much smoother.

Everything I had read said that technically they do not have to have a pool/pond to swim in. That said swimming makes them preen, preening leads to healthy feathers (not the growth aspect but the look/feel/insulation aspect). Personally (in my opinion) I could not see not giving them their pool, they love it too much. As babies we would let them swim and immediately dry them off. The do require enough water to dunk their heads into. It is necessary to moisturize their eyes, nasal passages, and wash food down. Like Apyl said...lots of research. Plus lots of questions asked on here helps..

My beautiful pekin, Soleil <3
Hi all. I just have one Pekin duck still not sure if she is a duck or drake. She is 9 months old no tail curl. Got her from a person who had 3-- 2 drakes(tail curl and thought this one to be female no curl. Got her for a friend for my old drake of 8 or 9 yrs old. They said she has never laid an egg. They talk to each other in a raspy kind of talk. She also makes other sounds kinda quacky but not really. He only makes one raspy sound and he is a khaki. Do females make that raspy talk and also a quack. I'm leaning to think she is a drake(which is ok as long as they get along ) which they do . any thoughts....

My vote is female. My boys had their drake feather before 9 months old. And yes a female has the loud quack and raspy calls as well. As for the eggs, do you have her on layer feed?

Just got her 4 days ago. i'm not sure what food they were feeding. I have him on water fowl maintence. I will need to pick up a new bag this week. What food do you feed and the brand. I hope for some eggs, so that would be great.

I use Dumor layer feed (both pellets and crumbles, just depends what I grab at the time) for my entire flock ( both boys , girls, chickens, and ducks). I buy a bag of layer feed, a bag of cracked corn, and a bag of scratch grains. Mix it all up in my big bin I have scoop it out. This lasts me about a month for my flock of 21. I also give all my kitchen scraps except raw potato and raw onion.
