Pekin Duck Club!

My Pekin, Puddle, at 2 days old and again at 4 weeks and 2 days old.

I knew she was growing fast but putting these pics together just... Wow. Imagine the growing pains they must have. Lol. You know it's got to hurt growing that fast.

(She looks all limp in the second pic. Lol. She was actually looking at something on the floor.)
I've never raised one from a fuzzy baby my old drake was already several months old when I got him. I can't believe how fast they grow....

OMG!!!!>>>PEAS!!!!! PEAS!!!!! It looked like they have not been fed in the past two weeks. I gave them some...then walked away...they literally tripped over themselves RUNNNG after me. Who knew? Well all of you knew! Thanks for the tip!! My daughter and I are in the family room with two very well behaved large dogs and 5 ducklings hanging out eating peas. The dogs are just laying there saying.."really..peas?" The ducks are getting all snuggly with the pooches. crazy!!! I would really love to keep all 5 of the ducklings...but I have a limit..well...maybe. I think I can only keep two, so anyone in NE OHIO...if you are interested PM me.(make sure you have frozen peas!)

Okay...so now I am at the grocery store and adding watermelon and frozen peas to the shopping list...lol. Anything else?
it is not very nutritious (so only once in a while as a snack) but our pekin loves lettuce. she races beating the entire flock of ducks and chickens to get it.

My ducks love peas and lettuce too. Have you ever tried raisins? Mine love them. They've only had them a couple times though. I think I'll try giving them watermelon next.

I'm getting a couple Perkins in 3 weeks my first ducks any info or interesting fact I should/need to know???
Welcome! Pekins grow fast so make sure to get lots of pics in the first week because the next week the wont look the same. And the week after that and the week after that. They are a large breed so the get very big, but they have quite the personality. Do you know if you know if you are getting hens and a drake, all hens or do you know? I can't wait to see your little cuties when they come :)

I think there are three very important things about ducks that differ from other birds... these are the ones that everyone should know.

Ducks need about 3x's the niacin as chickens - it needs to be supplemented. 100-125mg per gallon of water. (plain niacin, not the "no-flush" or "time-release")
Ducks need water that's deep enough to dunk their heads - it is imperative that they be able to wash their eyes and nostrils (however, any swim time needs to be supervised until their feathers grow in - they can drown as their fluff gets saturated)
They are messy - so be prepared - LOL (milk jug waterers are great for keeping them from spilling water all over the brooder)

Hi my name is Josie marsh and I have recently baught two beautiful Pekin ducks. They are named Bonnie and Clyde... I also have been looking for a Pekin Duck club. I am so happy with my ducks.

Soleil has a kiddie pool to swim in during the summer but the rest of the time she swims in a 19 gallon storage tub that I put in my shower.
