I'm sure this is already in 30 other places, but when do the drake feathers come in? I thought I had a male and a female when George started to show a slight upturn in a tail feather, but now they are practically identical. Both are the same age, and fully feathered. They also seem to sound identical so I'm suspecting I have two girls instead.

Are they loud quacks or raspy ?

With them being as they are, you should be able to tell by the quack. I was able to tell by the quack long before the drake feathers started coming in. If they sound the same, you have two girls. The male raspy quack is obviously different. I will try to get some video of mine and post it on here sometime for others' future reference. You will get lots of eggs!

Hello, I have a question about my female Pekin duck. When will she lay eggs? I've got her in July when she was 2 weeks old. I had 2 other males but had to give one away because he was pecking at her neck too much. Now I have the two male and female. I really want to get some eggs. When will this happen? Thanks for the help. Oh and I love this website it's so fun to see everyone's posts about ducks.

My Pekin started laying around 24 weeks - I've heard of some laying sooner and others as late as 35 weeks. I'm still waiting for my Jumbo Pekin to start laying - she's about 23 weeks now.

Are you saying you have 2 males and 1 female? If so, you really need to get some more girls or get rid of another male. At a minimum, you should have 3 females (might be able to get away with 2 females) to 1 male. Lots of people on this forum have lost their girls to "gang-rape" by the males, some of them drowning while all the males took their turns. Too much mating will also interfere with your duck laying as they can get injured by over-mating. Are you able to get some more girls?

Welcome to the Pekin Duck thread!!

Thanks for the updates. Yes I did have 2 male and a female...but I just found one a home. I had to separate one of the males from the female because he was pecking her neck to much and hurting her. So now I only have 1 male and 1 female. I read the same thing you told me about having too many males so that's why I found one a home. The 2 I have bonded with each other from the beginning and get along great. I just want to see her have some eggs? What would keep her from laying now that she is happy.?

Okay, I misunderstood - I thought maybe you were saying that you had more originally and then got it down to 2 males and a female. How's the temps where you are? Most ducks that were born last spring or fall are just starting to lay as Spring comes with longer days and warmer temperatures. She also might need some time after being picked on too much. What are you feeding, etc?
