Pekin Duck Club!

add me, add me, ADD ME!

Woohoo! Exciiittteeeeed!

Yup, got 2 Pekins, 2 Rouen (I think) and a smaller Khaki now. Cute as buttons, now I just need to figure out what to name the Khaki, since I got her only this morning from the feed store...
Decisions, decisions...

What did you guys all name your duckies?
My biggest Pekin is Susie (the screamer), the smaller one is Gunter (after my uncle). The bigger Rouen is Lola, the smaller one Tina Tykes and still clueless on my Khaki, and I don't have the sex yet. I will wait on that for another week I think. After the ride in the car don't wanna stress her out too much on her first day...

Anyone? Even a no, so at least i know, if you don't know, that you don't know if you take my meaning.

Please and thank you!

I'm pretty sure that you can still get fertilized chicken eggs from your roo for a couple weeks after removing the roo, so maybe it's the same with the ducks??? I guess to be sure I would wait 3-4 weeks if you don't want any eggs from a particular drake and then give the girls a couple weeks to be covered by the drake you want. Maybe someone else with some more knowledge will comment...

I think mon I'm gonna call Meyer and add one. What's one more?! I love how in 2 months I go from not wanting chickens to getting 4 and 3 weeks later place a order for 6 more chicks and 3 ducks. I blame all this on my hubby, the guy 2 houses down and chicken math (gets you every time!). You guys keep your chickens and ducks together? And what bedding do you use?
all of ours live together. we use straw and i fluff/mix it every morning, changing it when i think is needed...right now about once a month. we have 10 ducks and 5 chickens living together right now. 11 more chicks will be moving in when they have grown out. one day i want to try the deep litter method or sand but not sure how either would work with ducks. have to do some more research on those two methods.

Here's my Pekin. It doesn't really have a name but gets called Whitey most of the time. :) I bought two yellow ducklings from Atwoods thinking they would both be Pekins but one ended up being a fawn and white runner.

here is my pekin. It still has his baby feathers. I bought him so my other duck would have a friend. ( I'm not sure its a him, I call both of them hims) I have a few baby's I hatch too. I am thinking I had him for 2 months now. He still has his baby voice too. He is very big too. When do they start growing?

from what I understand from past post. A soft voice is a male, correct? Does anyone know a pekin seller up north. I looked into Metzers farm, but so expensive! And craigslist is good, but 90% of the postings are at least 100 miles away from me!

I don't drive much and our truck gets 15 mpg. So...

I have 14 chickens and 3 ducks on sand in my coop ... Best decision I ever made was getting rid of shavings and switching ...
No smell. Nails are kept trimmed , super easy to clean , super absorbent , also used as grit, super cheap - $7 a truckload . Awesome O annnnd I just got 2 American buff goslings today haha yay they will join the coop craziness ;)
