Well I finally added a pekin to my order, I can't wait for them to get here! 55 more days
Yay! I remember waiting for my order in from the end of February until the beginning of May! It's tough!!

I tried the peas and my ducks went crazy! It was soo adorable! I will try to get a pic of them eating their yummy greens!:) (I hate peas so this works out great! Lol)

My Pekins are getting braver! After a few weeks of me leading them or herding them every where I want them to be a few times a day, they do it all on their own now. They head to the pond, free range and go into their pen by themselves without being terrified of everything. Since it has warmed up and they have more confidence, they have been spending the whole day down at the pond now. They just grow up so fast....sniffle..sniffle...

I posted this earlier and did not get a response...
Will someone please tell me if the yolk in the bottom of a duck nest from a cracked egg will be detrimental to the other developing eggs. My Pekin duck has a nest with 2 eggs that I can see veining inside of. Two of the eggs are not showing any development yet but may in the next few days. One egg cracked and she rolled it out, but the remaining eggs are resting in the yolk at the bottom of the nest. I did not want to add fresh hay for fear that she may then refuse to sit on the remaining ones. Thank you do any advice!

It is hard! I ordered 4 chicks in the middle of April then a month later we added 3 ducks for the same ship day (aug 5). Aug needs to hurry up and get here tho cause I'm already up to 8 chicks and 4 ducks. And I'm prob gonna call and add 2 or 3 more chicks Monday.

All the animals in the house LOVES peas so they will fit in well! I would love too see a pic if your able to get one! My hubby hates peas too so it works out great for him.

We love peas...we should take up stock in some sort of frozen pea co. lol Since I started w/ then it has helped the boys 5 fold. They are still scared of us but at least in the afternoon they let us come into their pen and feed then. I have started serving everyone the fermented feed-ff. It does not look like it's a hit but I will wait an see. I could only come up w/ a 5 gal. plastic bucket so I cut the recipe down to fit. The next day (today) it bloomed! We'll wait an see. Since the raccoon took away 2 of my hens, yesterday I added 6 more chicken! I went down to purchase 2 Wyandottes from a fellow BYC member that I found on this net. But when I got there I ended up coming home w/ 5! Hubby knew I would, he had told my sons that I would come home w/ more so he had packed 2 cat carriers into one! Men, or my hubby, their keepers!

I told my hubby the other day we need to buy green giant stock with the way we go thru them! Now with the new additions I'm sure I will go thru a lot more. They had a really good sale a few weeks ago and I spent about $50 on peas,Took up almost half my freezer plus some bags in the fridges freezer. I should be good till about aug when all the new additions arrive :/

I used to have a large freezer. My oldest boy for xmas a few yr's ago, bought us a side by side w/ water & ice, crush. It's very nice but I lost a lot of freezer space for that convince. But I have to say, we use it!

First time owning Pekin ducks?

I'm hatching some Pekins for some friends and I've always just raised them for a few weeks and gave them back. Reading how much fun everyone seems to have with theirs I'm really starting to want to keep a few. The thing is, I live in a neighborhood and have a backyard, not acres of land. In my city, you are allowed to keep ducks and chickens but no roosters in residential areas. Would it really be fair though to keep them in a yard even though its not illegal? Do they need alot of land? I have a cleared out wood shed I could convert to a place for them to sleep in and I could get a small pool but do you think they'd be happy?
Also if I were to keep some I really have no idea after the first few weeks how to raise and take care of them. What to feed them, what their home should be like, ect. I'd do research obviously but if you think it's good any tips or pointers would be appreciated! Thanks :)
