I have had a few of my Muscovy's break off a nail and they do bleed quite a bit, you can try flour or corn starch even baby powder may work to stop the bleeding. If this looks like affecting more than one nail I'd try soaking her foot in some warm Epsom salt water for a couple days maybe morn and eve if you can or at least 1X a day I use a small bucket 1 gal and put 1 cup of Epsom salt and nice warm water dissolve then put both feet into the bucket[easier] and hold them for as long as possible at least 10 min. FYI Epsom salts is also a laxative so you don't want her drinking the water. I've never clipped my ducks nails and Muscovys' being tree dwellers have some long nails. But they can get them hung up on things maybe that's what your duck is doing.Hello fellow Pekin lovers! Well out here in Manitoba, the weather is warming up, slightly, and my ducks are spending more and more time outside which is a really good thing! The bad thing is, one of ducks has a bleeding toe. I have never clipped their claws/nails, never realizing I might need to. Her outside toe nail/claw fell off, that part of the toe is bleeding, and it looks like the second one is getting ready to fall off. They have been kept in a clean, dry barn, which 20 chickens, and I haven't noticed any problems at all over the winter, but now that she's outside, I have noticed it. Is this normal? Have I caused it with always having straw as the bedding? Is it a fungus/rot that needs medication? None of my other ducks have this problem, and she has no noticeable pain. Help!
That's so nice of you to take her in,. they all look very content.
The rehome Pekin arived at one and she is already fully settled in. It probably helped that my trio is still very young. We also have one Khaki Campbell drake and a Rouen female in the back yard. They would know better then to take on a full sized Pekin. Here are all the ducks. My little Rouen female lays an egg a day and the new comer Pekin lays eggs too so that is nice. The other Pekin girls are too young.
