Pekin Duck Club!

I would love to be added. I am also looking for a Pekin female as my lovely little girl just died and my male, Piotr, is very lonely. I live in San Francisco and I do hope that someone within the Bay Area might be able to offer me a Pekin female. Piotr is so lonely. I have a wonderful garden and very good care and food to offer. Anyone?
You might try asking here if anyone has any Pekins BYC staff would rather we not buy and sell here but if anyone has any ducks then you can go to PM to work out the details.

We also have a re homing thread and a Buy Sell trade thread....... very sorry for your loss.

What age should Pekin ducks develop their quack? I have four of them, two seem female cause they have the loud honk/quack. The other two chirp like how all four of them used to do.. I'm wondering if they are female or haven't developed yet. They are about 6 weeks old.

You can usually tell with the larger ducks like Pekins by the time they're a couple of months old. You can give it another 2-3 weeks to see how things develop, but you probably have two males and two females. That's by no means a sure thing, though, so give it a little while longer to see if it changes.

Thanks for the quick response. The funny thing is one of the ducklings has a fleshy color bill whereas the rest have yellow ones. I thought this fleshy bill duckling was for sure female since it was smaller than the others. It's still the smallest but it doesn't have the quack that the two others do. I thought male Pekins are larger than females?

Males are generally larger, but when you read that stuff it's talking about adult weights, not young ducklings. I'm just ever so slightly concerned about the small one since it's noticeably smaller and the bill color also doesn't sound right for a Pekin duckling. Does it seem healthy otherwise? If so, probably nothing to worry about. Are you able to post a pic of them?

BTW, I forgot to say welcome to BYC!

Hi,

It's very healthy. I did some research about the bill color when I noticed it as ducklings and read it's very normal.. it's some other strain of Pekin? No clue.

I have all sorts of pictures and videos on my blog: http://mrhobbyfarmer.com

It's the one on the bottom:

I should take some more up to date photos since they are even bigger now! ;p

Pretty duck, and she/he looks perfectly healthy. I would have guessed that one as female if I'd been asked to guess, but it's hard to tell with solid white ducks at that age.

Nibbles got in an altercation with my nutty broody game hen (THROUGH the fence!) and she messed his bill up. ( :( it bled) I've been putting neosporin without pain relief on it twice a day and it's looking lots better. Just when I'd got his bill problems fixed!

Poor Nibbles. I am happy he is doing better. Little hen needs to keep to herself

I thought Peepers found a worm in the woods and it was hanging out of her mouth. After watching her have a difficult time eating it I went down for a closer look. It wasn't a worm but a small frog! I didn't realize that ducks eat frogs. Surprisingly no one stole it from her lol.
