Pekin Duck Club!

So I was begging for a few females for my drake.
Well, I got some! I was so excited! We drove 2 hours there and 2 hours back on Wed night.
The first thing that happened, the ladies jumped into the pool. It was so cute.
The second thing that happened, my drake, Peck, jumped onto on of the girls and held her down on the water to breed.
I chased him off her and we promptly emptied the pool.
The next day we woke up to a very bloody and de-feathered little girl. He does not like the other female. He really has taken a liking to the Samantha.
So we separated them. We put Peck and Emma in with the chickens and we put Samantha in with the peacocks and turkeys.
Samantha looked good this afternoon so I put her in with the Peck and Emma and it has been about 4 hours. I went out and she is even bloodier and even more defeathered!
So I brought her in the house. She is in my bathtub with a blanket food and water.

Is he going to kill poor Samantha? What should I be doing?
Keep the 2 females separate from Peck then after they have been separate but where they can see each other try putting Samantha back in with him but not till she is healed up. You need to keep your drake away form your hens[chickens] if he mates them them and I understand many a drake will try he will kill them. They are not made to mate with a drake. Let Emma and Samantha be close to Peck but not in the same pen with him. Once you try Samantha back in with him and he is okay with her then put Emma in and see how it goes. But make sure he isn't attacking either of them before you leave them with him for good. Also do not put Samantha in with your chickens while she has open wounds chickens will eat and kill her they are drawn to red. I am not sure how Turkeys and peacocks react to pen wounds but to be on the safe side I'd keep her in til she heals but reeove Emma too from Peck so he doesn't totally bond with her and make it that much harder for Samantha to be accepted. I don't know why drakes will do this accept one female and attack another it doesn't always happen this way. But Samantha depends on you to take care of her. and protect her thankfully you are. Just curious what breed are your ducks and colors?

Thank you so very much!
That little drake had me feeling so bad for him. he looked so lonely. And then I get him some cute little gals and he tries to kill them. That's not much of a friend LOL!

So I have Samantha in my bathtub right now. She will be there for quite some time. It's quiet, warm, and she will have time to heal and chill out.

I am going right now to go pull Peck out and put that little man in with the peacocks and turkeys. He did really well in there.

I will leave Emma in with the chickens and baby muscovies.

So Peck, Emma, and Samantha are all Pekin.

I have 3 young lavender Muscovies, about 2-3 months old. One male two little girls.

Hopefully Peck can't get to your Muscovy's . He won't try and mate with your Turkey's will he? Peck may have to go in solitary confinement lol I know this isn't funny but gosh You'd have thought he'd have fallen in love with them both. Lets hope after a while he will. Keep us updated on how this soap opera pans out. And how Samantha is doing.

I was wondering if maybe color had something to do with Pecks attitude with Samantha that has now been ruled out.

if you have the time you can soak and reapply the iodine every three days till the scab comes off easily when you get under it with your finger nail.  I usually do it every other day or every third day. But so far i have only had to treat a chicken.

I don't think it would hurt at all to treat every 3rd day do you @Amiga
? Haunted was busy and didn't get around to it.

Her bandage came off last night and this morning her foot was dirty as can be. So I redid the treatment, I just got home from work and checked her, undid the bandage bc it was filthy, cleaned her foot and noticed the scab is soft and falling off and I'm off tomorrow so I'm gonna soak her and attempt removal. The only thing that's bothering me is there is defiantly a black scab and bumble foot on the one side but the spot in the middle of her pad is a brownish and not so much a scab but embedded into her foot and that's what looks like layers and layers of dead calloused skin. Im not sure if that part of it is bumble foot yet that's where it is very swollen and red and infected. I can't get a close enough, clear enough picture. I'm gonna soak her tomorrow, remove the black scab and see what happens with the other.

Here's the best pic I could find. The scab on the right is clearly bumble foot, its the one I want to remove tomorrow because its coming off. Its the scab on the left that I'm not sure about!

Don't pull off any scab until it easily lifts when using your nail, they will come off when ready so just keep up with the soaks and clear iodine you can soak daily but only use the iodine every 3rd day. It takes a while and if these that don't resemble bumble aren't then the soaking will take off the scabs and the new skin will be under neath. You are doing a good job there @duckies1230
