Pekin Duck Club!

I have two ducks. Do you have chickens too. Where do you keep your food and water? Do you heat it for the winter?
I keep a pan of food outside or their house during the day and pick it up at night so it doesn't get soggy for water I use a kiddie pool. I also recently have been keeping a small bowl or food and water in their house. The house is actually a chicken coop so there are nestling boxes that are off the main floor. I took the walls out of the nesting boxes and put the food and water bowls in it. It's perfect height for them and its honestly not messy. The bowls are somewhat deep and being up higher they don't splash it out as much. I have a low watt heating lamp that hangs over the food and water so it doesn't freeze. That way if it gets too cold and I'm not home to break the ice for them they always have water in the house they can get to. :)

I've also seen several different ideas of how to keep water in their house without it getting messy. Just depends on how big of a house you have too. Here's a good thread with some ideas.

Okay thanks! I'm fairly new to ducks is it okay to mix breeds like that? I read that saxonies are more broody so ducklings are more likely with them than pekins. But then it would be a mixed breed. Is that okay? Lol sorry i know thats kind of a dumb question.
Mixed breeds make some of the prettiest ducks to me, anything mixed with Pekins .You have to think ahead though can you support more ducks is there people around you who maybe interested in having ducks. What will you do with ducklings.

I am resigning myself to the fact that I will have ducklings (besides Jazlyn whom will be called duckling on BYC) in the house all January. All February. All... I will work at acclimating them to the cold as soon as possible, but it will be a while.
I'm hoping for two girls. Other than that, I don't care. I'll deal with what I get.
Do you guys use brewer's yeast or niacin for your ducklings? I may have to order something online. My local Walmart doesn't have what I need, and TSC is no help either.
