Now I am thinking that one of my females may be a male. It still mounting one hand in particular and it looks like it's really doing it. Can I have a male that doesn't have a curled tail feather? Could this be true?

I have seen pictures of drakes that I can't see a curled feather.
It really could just be a dominance thing.

Young drakes may take a while to get their drake feathers, from what I have heard.

Maybe the duck in question is waiting for its tail feather it's about seven and a half months old now. I am getting anxious now! I can't wait to find out the outcome

@gypz I have 5 drakes and they all got their tail featers at different weeks of age. I have 2 pekins and one pekin was the first to get his tail feather, just like clockwork, at about 14 weeks, then the other 3 got theirs about 2-3 weeks later. And the 2nd pekin has still not gotten a curly tail feather. Yes, I am sure he is a male; because of all the obvious signs, e.g. mating with my female pekin. Anywhooo, he just hasn't grown one yet. I'm not worried about it, he does everything else right, tee hee

Good morning! I've got a question about my ducks. I have four Swedish females and one pekin Drake. They're about 7 months old they haven't started mating. Yesterday I noticed one of the larger female Swedish was holding another female underwater and mounting her on the back then she was chasing everybody around. The drake is totally oblivious. Is this her trying to encourage him to mate?

I have 2 Pekins, both hens. They do this all the time, I was told it was for dominance. Go figure! I truthfully thought I had a drake but oh no, they are both hens (both laying eggs!).

What does he/she sound like? A hen has a very loud voice where as a drake is quiet, kinda like a hiss.

Honestly, I need to go sit on my bench by my pond and listen better. I am hard of hearing so it is difficult. Maybe its just wishfull thinking. The duck in question is doing it regularly to a smaller duck and it's getting quite rough

You know, you can put the duck in a time out. Just separate the duck from the others for a few days to a week. This will put her at the bottom of the pecking order.
