Pekin duck....treats??

My ducks are a month old and are on the mash still can I start to feed them really small cut up pieces of lettuce?? Or should I wait til they are older?

I just started giving my ducks the cabbage and they're about 3 1/2 months. If you cut the lettuce up in small pieces they should be ok. When my ducks were a month old I had them eating small chick pellets and they did fine with that, so I'm sure yours will be ok with the lettuce.

Thanks for the tip, Amiga. I hadn't thought of that. I don't want to cause them any discomfort. I read that if chickens have real, actual dirt in their run (instead of some sort of wood shaving, etc.) they don't need grit because they can get it from the dirt. Is this the same for ducks, Amiga? My run is dirt (and whatever plants they haven't destroyed yet) and my ducks often have a case of black mouth from eating the dirt.

Sounds like they are in good shape, then. Sometimes I don't know or cannot recall if the 'lings have had time outside in the soil.

Thanks Amiga! I am still getting used to raising my flock and something just seems so inherently wrong with letting them all go to town on dirt lol!

Oh, but dirt is so wonderful! That's what my runners tell me
