Pekin hatching problem

@Miss Lydia. Thank you so much for keeping me on the right track. I am still using the SaveAChick. I alternate it with the niacin. Water changed every hour. Was not sure they could be mixed. Last year, my first duck hatching, I had no idea what I was doing. The lady I got eggs from just told me temp 99' and 55% humidity. But I had 9 of 12 hatch with no problems. Since then have done several chick hatches. This was only the second duck. And you saw the problems. Would like to get runner eggs from CyndiD but need to be sure I can hatch withOUT problems. Just put more of my eggs in bator.

I went out to check on my new little duckling, she is curious and saw my light, so she peeked her head out from under mama duck...

she looks like a little mouse.

Sounds to me like your doing fine. Just sometimes there are things happen that are out of our control but look how it turned out healthy ducklings. That is what you have to look at we learn as we go. I could never do bator hatches. I'd be such a nervous wreck so I am in awe of you all that can. I just let my Scovy's brood if I want ducklings. So now you've seen CyndiD's you'll be sitting Runner eggs soon.

Thank you so much. I simply love my duck. Ducklings are so very funny BUT, I had forgotten how messy they were. I would love some runner eggs, maybe next month if the offer holds. Just put more Pekin/Sweedish in bator. I want to be sure I can hatch duck withOUT a problem. It is too nerve wrecking to have to assist. Thank you for the offer. How do you ship the eggs? Did Patty ever email you back about her Pekins?

Yes, my offer does not have an experation date. I have soooo many. I have never shipped. I am getting SWH in 2 days, so I will examine how they are wrapped and do the same. Im sure it is bubble wrap (lots) and an egg carton bubble wrapped.. The breeded is charging me $12.00 for sipping and they are coming from NC, a little further than you and I. So, it may be less $$ for you & I.
Yes, ducklings and ducks are very messy, and a TON of work, and they are flight animals, but there is something about them that we just Love, huh? I think it is the cuteness, the challenge to gain their trust, their curiosity, their entertainment, their EVERYTHING, i guess.
I am going out to see if any more duckies have hatched... talk to you later.

It's so exciting to have ducklings hatching. Love it. The shipping cost is not a problem. If you do not mind maybe getting a Pekin/Sweedish mix in the batch. I have 1 mix female (Pekin/Sweedish) and 3 Pekin females. 2 Pekin drakes. Get 4 eggs a day. I can return post you some. Need to see how you pack.
Good luck with your ducklings (runners?). Give mom a extra treat for me

I think Pretzel is standing a little taller and holding his head up higher. Doing great. It's going to be hard in a few months to find out "he" is a she. But, at least the name will be ok.

I also was gifted 4 geese. They will be going across the road to cousins place. He has a large tank. They do not like the ducks

Off to the Atwoods for more feed.

@Lacrystol . Thank you for the information. I only gave the PolyViSol thru the weekend. It and SaveAChick was all I had. Did get some 250mg niacin.
Have been giving 125mg in a gal of water to all 7 ducklings. I am ordering poultry drench. Pretzel ( the problem child) is doing great. Can not believe he made it. All because of information and help from the BYC duck people.
If I need to add the B comp, I can get that. If so-how much?

Well you don't need to add to much, if what you are doing is what you have going now, just stick with that. Is the Niacin a pill?? if so, is it melting? I tried a straight pill and it never melted for me that's when I switched to the Vitamin B complex..

Unless you have a Momma duck to do the job AND even they run into PROBLEM.. I'm afraid to inform you but you will or Could have problems. Shipped eggs are a BIG challenge because anything can go wrong during shipping. Then you have your bator, ANYTHING could go wrong with the Bator. Even MOMMA ducks do things wrong..

There's NO guarantee that you will have a perfect hatching each time. yes, it's stressful, yes it's a gamble but you just do the best you can..
