Peking Duck with Water Belly

I am so sorry you are dealing with this @ronna jozef :hugs Ive been there a few times. Depending on the cause behind the Ascites, antibiotics can help short term if fluid retention is bacterial driven. But meds won't cure the underlying issue and eventually they die. Draining can extend their lives, but this too only works short term. If this is heart disease, the antibiotics won't have any effect.

Good luck with her, I feel your pain, its heart breaking. :hugs
Thank you

I suggest using a 30 ml or larger syringe, and a needle that is 14 gauge. If you're lucky, draining the fluid might extend her life for a few months, but the fluid will return. :hit

@Eggcessive has the link to a good video that shows this being done.
Hello
I did drain her tonight not able to see the Vet - it seem to work well - I only did a cup and 1/2 of fluid - could have done more but was afraid to;

Also the color that came out was brown - like dark coffee - this scared me a bit I thought it would be yellow -

Please let me know - when I can do this again;

How is everything going? I have been thinking about you guys.
Hi
I hope you are able to help your duck be more comfortable. I just lost one of my pekins earlier this week to Ascites. Hers was not drainable. I wish you the best!
Hello
One of my peking ducks the sweetest one has water belly - I did all the research on this and I am sure- did the epson salt bath as well -

From what I found it needs to be drained - I watched videos and I am sure it has to be done. I am worried - they say you must only drain from the right side - is that looking at her from the front or the back - I am so worried - also put her on antibiotic - but am sure this is what she has;

Please just let me know is the right side from the front or the back
Hello

It is she is breathing heavy at times - and it is like a balloon in size. They say only drain from the right side - so is that the right from the front or back of her - Also how large of a syringe and will it come right back or relieve her from this for a while-
Thank you just very upsetting to see her this way
I Was not able to see the Vet - However I did drain her tonight- I did about a cup 1/2 of fluid -
I did get concerned the color was dark brown like black coffee - but not blood -
When will I be able to drain her again;
I also attached a photo after her bath - that shows the water belly --
