Pellets in brooder box?

Has anyone ever used this in their brooder box? How well did it work? I use to use something similar in my horses stall and it was very absorbent. Chicks should be hatching on Monday!

Not sure what this is made of but I also used corn cob pellets (usually used in horse stalls) and smell wise it worked great! My only complaint would be dust. The chicks were very good at scratching the pellets into dust, which then proceeded to float EVERYWHERE ! Now I must say this was primarily a problem due to the fact that I have my chicks in the dining room lol...I know.... But anyhow I have switched to wood shavings since I ran out of pellets and well.... Dust problem solved but they do smell more :/ so take your pick haha

I got it from Tractor Supply. It does say it can be used for birds to. I know when I used it in my horses stall it worked great. The pellets just absorbed any liquid and turned to a fine dust. It smells like I have a Christmas pine growing in my bathroom... for now anyway. LOL

I'll let you know how it works when the babies start hatching and pooping.

That's what my Grange feed store uses as bedding in their brooder tubs, it seems to do fine for them. They run thousands of chicks through that store each season!

There are lots of names for it, just ask at your feed store for pelleted bedding.

I used pelleted corn cob this year and loved it. Very absorbent, used some Sweet PDZ every couple of days as I did the deep litter method with 29 chicks in the brooder. The best thing is that the can walk on it so much better than newspaper, shavings, or straw. No splayed legs.
