Minx,,since the netting is 2",,it's easy to count the number of squares between the poles,multiply this by 2" and that tells you how many inches of netting there is between the posts.Posts 10ft apart is a total of 120". 60 squares of netting properly stretched will equal 120". If you have 50 squares between 10' of span,it's stretched too tight,,if you have 70 squares between a 10' span it's too loose.

I got that. @frenchblackcopper How did you support your netting from corners to center pole?

KsKingBee, I used 1/8" cable (1200 ft for a 48'x48' aviary) until I ran out,then used 12ga galvanized wire to finish with. If you go back to my Building of Pea Palace thread you can see how there is an "X" between 4 posts,as well as cables running parallel with the line of posts. Within a 10' square of 4 posts there is appr.60' of cable to hold up 100 sq ft of netting. Next time tho I'm planning on using nylon rope,as it's always going to be pulling when tight. Cable is a bear to get fiddle tight and by the time it is tight,you've pulled it so much the top of the poles are being pulled inwards.3/8" nylon rope is easier to work with and with as much as I put it I'm sure the net will still stay up.

When I owned the shooting range, I used 1/8th and 3/16th inch steel rope to pull the target carriers on the rifle range. I bought many thousands of feet of the rope for replacement when it would get shot up. I have a big pile of rope to use, so I am lucky there, and I framed in all the posts so I guess I can stretch the rope as much as I can since they are braced. I will dig up the old thread and check out how you fastened the netting.

Come to think of it, I also have a couple of miles of 1/8th kevlar rope too. It does NOT stretch!

Thank you I get what you are saying now.

I think I will use rope instead of the wire then.
