DH and the kids got me a new camera for Christmas so I took some new pictures of Phil. I'll get some of Lil, Mister, Sweet Pea and the Baby later on but Phil is the biggest looker of the group

I hate to revive a dead thread….. but pencilled inheritance is not as well documented as some other aspects of turkey plumage inheritance. I have been seeing Pencilled Narragansett varieties popping up on the inheritance calculator that Austria89 made. How are these birds inheriting the pencilled feather patterning?

The best place to ask that is on @austria89's site.

As far as I know, the penciling gene is linked to the black winged bronze gene. I recall a mention on Porter's site saying that they need to do more investigation of the penciling gene.

Theoretically for the penciling gene to show up in Narragansetts, they would need to not be pure Narragansetts but would have to have the black winged bronze gene.

He put a book out on genetics, not sure if pencil is covered.
