Penguin seems sick

Soooo this morning I found something very unusual in my front yard, a dead pigeon. Makes me wonder if this dude had anything to do with my girls getting sick

Looks like a pretty fresh kill. I would more likely think that is was just a predator attack. It is always possible that wild birds can give your ducks diseases. I would think that more if you found a dead bird that hadn't been attacked, but just died.

I hope not! It's clearly been chomped on, so perhaps just a casualty of a neighbourhood cat...

Ugh okay.... my poor baby just can't catch a break. I just went out to check on them and was holding her and noticed she had something black up by her caruncles, I thought it was just dirt or something, but I tried cleaning it off and the dirt started moving, and i noticed more around her eye. She has some sort of mite now. I just sprayed them down with permethrin because that is what someone on this forum suggested last time I thought one of my birds had mites. Not sure what else to do.

Jeez, I sprayed the entire area down with permethrin, and I took some tweezers to try and carefully remove them from penguins face, the permethrin seemed to kill them but they are incredibly hard to pull off. They are on there really good do they just fall off eventually after they die?

Alright, I made a post in the predators and pests section as well, and ordered some diatomaceous earth to sprinkle around the area tomorrow. My poor baby I feel so bad for her those bugs do not seem fun she has been through enough already.

DE will not kill mites or lice believe me. Stick with the spray for poultry.

Try using a qtip put some of the spray on it and dab around her skin at her eyes being careful not to get any in the eyes.
