Penguin walk

Let me see if I can get a video. Her belly isn't bigger today than it was 2 days ago. How fast does the fluid build up?

It varies... I've drained some and had it fill up in a few days, others go for months between draining. The key is to drain them before they start breathing through their mouths, because if you wait that long, the act of draining them might send them over the edge.

Please understand I'm not suggesting that you drain, just trying to share my experience.

Well the LARGE egg is from this morning. She is better. I would be too after laying that. This would be her 6th double yolker. I'm hoping she evens out. I guess this is what her problem has been.

Scratch'n'peck- her "belly" is full and squishy and seems to be getting worse.

I have given her tums for 3 straight days along w the bath. I am pretty sure she is laying but she isn't a regular layer yet since she just started a about 2 weeks ago.

I have checked her vent several times over the last couple days and felt nothing but poop. Am I doing it wrong? The picture looks like there are two ways to go. In and Up -egg, in and down - poop. Is that right?

I have done more with chickens in the last 2 years than I have ever done working for a pediatrician and taking care if kids.

.

I really like all my animals regardless of type and hate anything being in pain or hurting.

She is eating this morning. I keep waking up dreading going to the coop. She used to only walk intermittently like a penguin but now it's all the time. No panting or heavy breathing. I even checked her legs and back to make are there wasn't another injury.

It seems to me to be 2 possible thing now bc of her age - egg bound or ascites. (

normally fatal in time)
In and up is for egg. Not sure why you couldn't feel that big one.

Not real squishy. When she coo's at me. Iyiu can feel her muscles and not much soft. She's still walking like a penguin and still laying.

Well she has a new name "low rider" thanks to my husband. But she's doing good. No squishy belly. Laying double yolkers every other day. Only walks like a penguin intermittently.
