I'm so sorry. Sounds like there must have been an underlying condition causing her plucking. I know it gets crazy cold where you are, but please be careful with the heat lamp. I'm sure you are, I just get paranoid.

very sad here. hopefully her mate is ok with the rest of the birds for awhile. not sure about sending in for necropsy yet. ($250!) but the vet thought her neck was broken.
she never was a great flyer so I'm wondering if she hit her head too hard on the roof or something like that?

True, never give the pour-on orally, but the 1% injectable or the horse paste given orally *does* treat *all* lice, I guarantee it. I don't own any of the pour-on, all I ever use is the 1% and it treats 100% of the poultry lice in 24-72 hours.

@townchicks yes we are careful with the heat lamps. they are in a cage & wired up so they cannot fall. I still have some chicks in the coop so they are a necessary evil. it was about -25 not sure on the windchill but I saw -45 on the news.so I'm sure the cold didn't help any.
