Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Looking at going Saturday and taking the kids. I know suicide going than, but I guess when your 7' tall with fangs and a complete neanderthal than I guess it's easier to get around lol   Hey Missy!:smack

Nope, I'll be in Lancaster all day. Have a dress appointment in the morning, then tea in the afternoon and then a party that night!

one of the best laying and eating ducks so they say,  i know they lay good but i could never bring myself to eat one, for me, they're the only ducks i would ever have again, once they know you're their person, they will come to you, hiss, they don't quack, and wag their tail , i just love the muscovys

Yup, my fiancee says they're military, they form up in the line, and follow you wherever you go. And if they want your attention they'll either jump up a little or grab your pants and tug.

Oh..... they sound adorable! I don't have a place for ducks now, but maybe some time in the future. (note to self... add cute ducks in pond to list of reasons I want to move!!!)

My only experience with ducks has been the 'wild' variety that are used to people at the lakes where we fish... and not really good experience! LOL

And my Dad had geese when I was little, all I really remember about them was that they were mean! Those things hissed at you if you even got anywhere close to them and would flog you at the drop of a hat! Don't know what kind they were, but wasn't a good introduction to the 'water fowl' varieties!

rant:

So we just bought my car 3 months ago. Since then, it's been in the shop every two weeks. Luckily, it's under warranty. AND we bought the extended warranty, because I'm lucky.

This last time though...it's a doozie. I find out the 4 wheel drive doesn't work as I'm trying to drive up my driveway in 14" of snow. It doesn't work well. Because, well, the driveway is UP the side of a hill!!!!!! Great time to find out it doesn't work. So I park my car...which decides to slip into the ditch as I step out of it into the snow. A few days later, I finally make it up most of the way up the driveway (WOOHOO!). I park her and put the E-brake on. Go inside. An hour later and (Carlita) my car has slid 45 feet down the drive way into a snow bank. Lovely.

Take it in the next week. They say it's a sensor and the tires are bald. Now come on. The TIRES are causing the 4WD to not engage? Yeah. Sounds like a PERFECTLY plausible excuse. NOT. So we get the sensor fixed and put on a whole new set of tires. I'm so stoked! Get it picked up, looking all pretty...

Drive her home and now she pulls to one side. That's ok, we knew she was probably out of alignment. I put her into 4WD to get her up the driveway and guess what. Surprise, surprise. New tires DON'T fix a broken 4WD. Know what does? FIXING THE 4WD!!!!!!! So we try again, thinking I'm just an idiot and don't know how to work it, hubby gets into the driver's seat. I walk up to the house in the 40+ mph winds we apparently needed so desperately and watch hubby try. He makes it most of the way up the driveway and when he needed 4WD the most, what happens? Nothing in the rear kicks in. Only this AWFUL grinding noise that he "says" is snow hitting the undercarriage. I'm not a genius but that's almost as plausible as needing new tires to "fix" your 4WD. So he backs it down and leaves it at the neighbor's house. Ridiculous.

So I just called the Kia dealer...AGAIN to schedule another fix. At what point can you lemon a car?

What a day for Rants! Let it out.. Let it out!!

12 hours at three farm show. Lots of beautiful birds, great displays all over and picked up some information on lots of stuff.

And some wine.

Learned if you wear a kilt, "bazinga" t-shirt, and chicken hat, you get a lot of looks and comments.
I really want to go to this, maybe next year! Or if I can find one closer to this area! HAHA!! BAZINGA!!!
Congratulations Chad!
Okay-so I think the boy and girls are doing well. I am going to let them free range in the morning and see how that goes. I have anxiety that they are gonna run away! LOL!!

I think I am in love with Blarneys incubator. LOL!! Out of 24 I have 15 that are moving and viable, 3 I threw out to being non fertile and 6 are veining and not moving-so we will call them iffy eggs. I'm doing much better this hatch. I feel positive and my LED flashlight went through the darkest eggs. I feel like we are going to hatch out nicely this time. Keeping fingers crossed!
Good luck!!

Happy Birthday!!

And I had to share my picture of my 1st-est EGG!! Thanks everyone! It was a lot of hard work and waiting!! My lovely Tully left it for me, she is an OEG so her eggs will always be on the small side. disappointed I have to toss it, since I had them medicated, but there will be many more I'm sure! Hoping my other girls we take lead!

Question time!
1) It looks like they are pulling the feathers from my 1 Hen, Rosie, is that normal? Her tail has like 2 feathers left! poor thing.. So she is wings and a fluffy butt!
2) Since apparently one of my larger girls is actually a boy, He is not crowing, do I had to worry about him fertilizing the eggs of my 3 girls? And my BF mom says you can't eat an egg that has been fertilized, is that true?

Here it is, next to a store bought Large Egg, it is sooo stinking cute!

Had to take a pic of it in the nesting box of course!!

Tully is on the Far Right, my Only girl Laying and that is the Nesting box my BF made for them that she actually used!! TEHE

The White chicken in the back is the Roo,Styx, a white cohin, if anyone is interested, If not we may have a chicken dinner?

Also if anyone needs a nesting box, I can ask the BF to make more, perhaps for a trade? Send me a PM. I was thinking about what kind of Hens I would want, since I only have 3 at the moment. After some research on breeds I was thinking of trying 1 RIR, 1 Australorp, 2 Light Sussex and 2 Oprington. Or if you can recommend a good breeder to go to?

I hope everyone has a nice day!

i sure loved mine when i had them but had to get rid of them, they were getting on the road and my mil had a fit, yes they fly quite well, but mine always came back after flying their loops around the place, they also would land in the trees, really funny to see that size of a duck in a tree. the drakes get quite large, the hens, not so much, still bigger than most.

Okay! Everyone is in the coop and confined! There pecking order going on, but no one is attacking each other! *phew Please send positivity that it goes well! I figured since there is no run, that doing it this way is best since the polish and brahma outnumber Sandy. I'll leave them in there overnight and tomorrow they will have to free range a bit until I can get this run made. (They will free range with dog and human security. (Part of the reason I wanted the coop out my office window. :) I figured a nice warm winter day was good for them to all get along. LOL!
Nice coop. How much did it cost and how many chickens is is suppose to hold?

Mindy just sent me a telepathic message - she wants ducks. ;-)

They will do fine with just a kiddie pool. If you have a real pond, it just gives them a reason to think they need to spend the night al fresco, where they will eventually get eaten by a fox when the pond is frozen and they can't escape. Since scovies can fly, they escape better than other kinds of ducks, but I always and up losing some when winter and pond coincide.

I have a production RIR that should have laid early and a lot. She didn't lay till almost 8 months old and only does an average of 4 per wk. The comets lay like it's no one's business and early! They start at around 16wks and than press on. They also have personality, but won't brood if someone put a gun to their head lol. And color is fairly basic. Which is why cochins would be a good find. Great personalities, lay a few eggs a week per bird, can be a mom on demand, come in many different colors and develop into one heck of a meaty bird.
Are the comets similar to the red sex links? Are they a crossbred?

Stop by the Beekeepers Assn. honey stand at the far end of the old main hall. I'll be there again on Saturday. Wear a funny hat so I know you're you!

Simply AWESOME!!

Mama2my, Muscovys....uh, I've heard that the drakes can be nasty, uh...and I just can't get past the red thingy.

Rosie, would love to trade for nesting box, but my pure breeds are not laying yet. Yes, you can eat fertilized eggs. Feather picking is sometimes a sign of lack of protein, (but not always), getting feed with more protein could be a simple solution to your feather picking problem.

THANK YOU for all the b-day wishes for the boy child. He is suffering through some extensive testing right now, I hope he's not too exhausted to go to school afterward. Bad Momma scheduling testing today.
