well they cant free range, I will make one of those cattle fence panel runs and part covered with a tarp. a nice size turkey to eat at holidays, not a scrawny one as I have alot of kids! lolSally, what exactly are you looking for in a turkey? The BB varieties are great little turkeys, but they do have their issues. Even on a diet and free-range, I had one that died because she couldn't handle the tom's weight (and he weighs less than they do). If you're looking for pets, go for a BB mix or a heritage bird. If you're looking for Thanksgiving dinner, go with the BB varieties. Royal palms are gorgeous birds, but they aren't nearly as friendly as some of the other breeds. I've heard narries can be mean. I HATE the Easterns, they're just as wild as the ones born in the woods! They're WORSE than the royal palms and I would never, ever get another one unless it was free and I planned on butchering it that day. They might be small, but don't underestimate them... They HURT! I hear a lot of good stories about the bourbon reds, people seem to love them. They seem to be quite abundant as well, a lot of folks here have them available (ProfTi and Ayeupchuck off the top of my head). I've heard good things about the slates as well.
Quote: Eli I have CHICKS...... blue and some splash silkies, serama I have roos and I cant tell what the new 14 I hatched are yet. adding I am pretty close to you.... north berks just up from Interstate 78
WELL DONE!!! whoot whoot!!I finally got My coop all done and the girls are settled in their new home. I used some old plant holders there were using in their old coop. This coop is nicer warmer. i used see through roofing to let natural light in , and to let them see the night sky. and who knows maybe get a roo one day for a little star lit romance. There a little door on the side to let them out of the coop. But I need to build a fence first so they'll be in house for the next few days to get used to it. AND one of these girls lays a brown egg. Haven't figured out which one yet.
