I hate 1st shift.........no offense to anyone but I find first shift to be snobbish....and in the winter you have no daylight hours.

I have 5-9 week olds completely off of lights under my front porch & it gets cold enough down there for their water to ice over. It's out of the wind but temps still get pretty low. Last year I was pitching 3-4 week olds out to the coops as soon as they feathered in. I'd be doing it this year too but since we moved over Christmas my grow out pen isn't back up yet. That's this week's project & then about 100 chicks are headed outside, ages 4-9 weeks.Like MCC, I need to know when I can get my 7wk chicks outside...the smell is invading the rest of the house and they need more room than the dog crate/brooder provides...What is the minimum temp that they can handle?....they look fully feathered...
None of mine ever have lamps & temps dropped into the 30's several times after they went out last year. As long as your coop is fairly draft free & you put out at least 5-6 at a time they can snuggle together for warmth.I'm moving my 3 week olds out to my pole building next week when they are 4 weeks old ~ under heat lights. Temps are supposed tp be in the 40's at night then.
Bring him with you when you come get your BR this weekend & swap him out for a pullet. So we found out today the BLRW we thought was a hen is now a.roo...first crow was this morning...well a kinda crow LOL he needs some practicebut we can't keep him cause we aren't allowed roos where we are. Anybody know anyone who may want him? I wish we could keep him but we just can't

Not quite sure that will work. They always look for volunteers for 3rd.Just screw with them tell them you volunteer for third shift.....then they'll put you on first shift......
Nice! Here's a nice reference chart I found....probably just good for us newbies.....

Congrats! Glad they are staying 'in the family' so to speak!! LOLI am pleased to announce that I purchased Reyvaugh's LF Ameraucana. I know it is a bittersweet feeling for her. We are very excited, and thank her very much!
