I have a question.. my Pekin drake, I am pretty sure he was the culprit, drown two ducklings earlier this spring. Now one of my ducks is sitting on a clutch of eggs. I am worried about when they hatch. Has anyone ever had a drake do this before? I think he is going to be out of here pretty soon just sick of the things he has been doing. I guess I should build some more run areas,ha e to find the money to be able to first, right now my chickens, ducks, and goose all share the same run area. I have noticed my drake going after some of my chicken hens.. not really the best set-up but it is what I have right now. Any other ideas for my drake other than getting rid of him?
Sorry, I'm duck less, maybe someone else will chime in.

I have a question about a broody hen. I planned on getting more hatching eggs for the incubator since we only got 3 chicks this hatch. When I went outside last night our silkie was sitting on her nest and is still there tonight. She has 2 eggs under her. If I order some they won't be here until next week sometime. Can I put them under her with the eggs she already has? They will hatch at different times so I wasn't sure.

others may have different viewpoints, but I would not put eggs a week apart in incubation under a broody, especially not a first timer. Could you switch out the ones she already has for fresh ones, when you are ready to set the mail order eggs? Also, make sure you read up on 'loose air cells' before putting mailed eggs under a broody. I usually let my mail order eggs set unturned the first few days of incubation to help heal any damaged air cells to heal.

Having a really rotten day,,,hubby handed me my favorite rooster by the feet and said do something with this,,,there was blood and it was not from the rooster,,,I did not have to ask what happened since this rooster never liked hubby......rooster now in fridge,,,a little depressing, but hubby does not fit in fridge.

Here is the reason why you must take the time to find out what YOUR predators are gonna be.....I am literally only about 3 miles away and have very different predator's,,,,I get hawks but only in late summer early fall,,,,never had a raccoon problem, only time we see them is when sweet corn is ready and we set traps at that time....seen one possum in the last 3 years and it was obviously not well being out in the day time (really was not well an hour later).

with that said, my biggest predators are the sparrows that carry all kinds of nasty things with them and the pigeons (still looking for a useful purpose for these)....and the road, we live along a strip of road that people like to race on.

'really was not well an hour later' BWAHAHAHA!

SilkieSensation, great set ups! I should (God willing) have baby goats shortly, Nigerian Dwarf Milk goats. Although...I live a stone's throw from Delaware, and aren't you in Ohio?

Had one of those mornings that started off with the dog eating my breakfast..and things aren't exactly 'looking up'. Hope everyone else has a great day!

Not sure what you may have been referring to there, but yes I have had neighbor problems, as in they let their dogs run free.

building fort knox was something I aimed for in the beginning, now I realize I ave to try to keep out the worst of the predators and hope for the best....seriously though, I am not sure many people realize how bad the sparrow can be, I see many people with bird houses and feeders alongside the chicken coop......this is not good.

Whats the deal with sparrows? Yikes, lots around here.

Lmao, hubby does not fit in fridge.. Sorry you are having a rotten day. Interestingly enough, my favorite roo doesn't care for my hubby either. But when my roo attacked my hubby he got to spend a week in a dog crate.. He didn't like that much.. Leaves hubby alone now. So sorry about your favorite roo.:hugs

9 or of 12 eggs are developing!!! Woo hoo!

Cleaning things up today, gardening, stuff like that. Went to let chickies out of the run and got mobbed by lambs who were positive if they pawed, head butted, rubbed, and chewed on me enough, treats would magically fall to the ground. And it does when I have a bucket. But this time I didn't.... Have a good weekend everyone!!!

:celebrate Good news!! I have found a gosling that I can get for free.... whop, whop! So my goose will ha e a friend real soon.. Anyone want a duckling or two? I have some that are two weeks + - old... Let me know if you are interested.. Oh, does anyone by chance have SS (Speckled sussex) chicks or eggs that they might want to sell?
Barbiegirl, glad to hear no Lyme disease! :)
